POSITION PURPOSE:&nbsp;The full-time Carpentry Instructor assists the Program Director in the development of programmatic initiatives and curriculum. The instructor teaches specific carpentry courses, as assigned by the Program Director.DUTIES: The full-time carpentry instructor will be responsible for teaching multiple theory classes and hands-on labs, so that students gain the knowledge and skills needed to be skilled carpenters.Essential duties include, but are not limited to:<ul><li>Demonstrate carpentry expertise in a fully equipped facility.</li><li>Teach general and specific shop (laboratory) and theory classes and those associated with the advanced carpentry.</li><li>Oversee student compliance with applicable safety standards, OSHA regulations, accident prevention rules and procedures, and hazardous materials handling requirements in the shop and on all school-related projects.</li><li>Supervise student involvement in on-campus work assignments and school projects, while assisting students with classroom assignments and skill development to encourage successful attainment of program standards.</li><li>Regularly and consistently monitor and record student aptitude and performance in classroom and/or shop setting by means of standard instruments of evaluation and submit grades to the Registrar as required for assigned course.</li><li>Implement the College’s academic policies, such as those relating to grading academic probation, course failure compensation.</li><li>Assist students in adjusting to established disciplinary standards and in internalizing the vital moral, ethical, and spiritual values of the College, with special emphasis on developing a positive work ethic.</li><li>Prepare/update required course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, and catalog descriptions for courses.&nbsp;</li><li>Integrate academic and student performance information within the College’s Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.</li><li>Assist the director in curriculum planning, including assessing, developing, and implementing curriculum additions, deletions, and revisions for assigned courses.</li><li>Plan and coordinate, in conjunction with the director, the logistics for course functions, including: instructional equipment and supplies; field trips; off-campus appointments; and guest speaker presentations to the students.</li><li>Assist the director with ordering, purchasing, and storing supplies and materials.</li><li>Serve as a role model for students and embrace/demonstrate the school’s core values.</li><li>Attend and participate in scheduled In-Service Training sessions.</li><li>Assist the administration as needed through service on various administrative committees.</li><li>Participate in college disciplinary processes as needed, such as those regarding Disciplinary Appeal, Disciplinary Review, and Scholarship Review.</li><li>Enforce student compliance with the College’s Conduct Code, including regulations regarding attendance, dress and grooming, drug and alcohol abuse, fire and safety, and those general regulations that embody the ideals of gentlemanly behavior.</li><li>Attend and perform any assigned duties for special events, such as: FYE, Freshman Orientation, Convocation, Homecoming, Applicant Interviewing Days, Founder’s Day, Service Week, Spring Cleanup, Commencement, and Alumni Day.</li><li>Comply with all college policies and procedures as described in the Employee Handbook.</li><li>Serve as Officer on Duty on a periodic basis, as scheduled.</li><li>Perform other duties that may occasionally be assigned by the President, Provost and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer.</li></ul>QUALIFICATIONS:&nbsp;<ul><li>Must have a minimum of three years of experience in the carpentry field.</li><li>Must be able to show a command of relevant theory and practice, contemporary knowledge, and best practices in the carpentry field.</li><li>Must have at least 1 specialty area under the umbrella of carpentry, with the ability to teach advance carpentry skills.</li><li>Have earned an associate’s degree or higher (preferred not required).</li><li>Have teaching experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level (highly preferred but not required).</li><li>Have an OSHA 30 certification (preferred not required).</li></ul>COMPENSATION:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Based on educational qualifications and applicable industry and teaching experience, the annual salary for the non-tenured, ten-month appointment is in the competitive range and includes an excellent benefits package.STARTING DATE:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Negotiable&nbsp;WORK ENVIRONMENT:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Williamson College of the Trades is an endowed, gift supported three-year, independent, post-secondary, vocational-technical college for economically qualified young men.
