The Backrooms game's primary Backrooms Game objective is to explore this weird, deserted area and attempt to live. There are only interminable hallways, odd noises, and mounting tension—neither a clear objective nor any directions. The game evokes terror through ambiance and psychological horror rather than jump scares or creatures, but they may emerge. Things get more eerie the more you investigate.

The mechanics and gameplay

The Backrooms game has been developed by a number of different creators, but most of them have the same basic idea: the player gets stuck in the Backrooms and has to find their way out of the maze, if there is one at all. While some versions only involve exploration, others have entities—strange creatures that pursue the player. To escape these dangers, players must flee, hide, or remain silent.
