Job Description and Requirements
The Accountant, according to GAAP, will prepare and post journal entries, reconcile a multitude of general ledgers, prepare financial statements and conduct variance analyses pertinent to the Credit Union and Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSOs). Additionally, the Accountant will research, analyze and resolve a wide variety of general ledger outages in a timely manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate general ledger entries and financial statements for Credit Union Services Organizations (CUSOs) for executive management and board of director review.
- Research, analyze and document explanations for variances in general ledger accounts.
- Reconcile general ledgers and ensure outages are rectified promptly.
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger according to GAAP, maintaining complex Excel spreadsheets for supporting documentation.
- Communicate productively and professionally with employees and vendors to resolve issues and answer general ledger related questions.
- Crosstrain to perform critical functions to back up key personnel.
- Collaborate with teammates to improve internal processes.

Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years at an accredited university or college in an undergraduate degree program in accounting, finance or related field
- Less than one year of job-related work experience
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet stringent deadlines, such as ordering branch and ATM cash, while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Familiar with member-facing transactions to research an assortment of outages withstanding in the general ledger
- Efficiency using various computer software to generate reports and research transactions
- Demonstrate an understanding of GAAP through accurate application
- Ability to work in teams across departments
- Strong understanding of the financial institution industry
- History of effectively working independently with minimal oversight
- Relevant coursework in accounting and financial reporting
- Microsoft Office Suite, specifically comfortable in Microsoft Excel
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
