Job Summary
The Kentucky Energy Planning and Inventory Commission (EPIC) is an independent state commission established by KRS 164.2807 to provide analysis of Kentucky’s energy adequacy and reliability. EPIC operates independently in its policy analysis, decision-making, and recommendations to the Kentucky General Assembly. The commission is administratively attached to the University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) for operational support functions including payroll, human resources, information technology, and facilities management.
The Administrative Assistant provides comprehensive administrative, financial, and operational support to the Executive Director of EPIC and commission operations. This position serves as the primary point of contact for the commission, manages financial processing and budget monitoring, coordinates board meetings and stakeholder engagement, and ensures efficient operation of commission activities. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong financial acumen, discretion in handling confidential information, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), specifically spreadsheet and data analysis
- Strong knowledge of University Business Procedures or similar governmental/institutional financial systems
- Experience with financial systems including SAP, BW, Concur, or similar enterprise resource planning systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Demonstrated quality of work, dependability, and problem-solving ability related to financial and business procedures
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Discretion and judgment in handling confidential and sensitive financial and policy information
- Resourcefulness in addressing operational and financial challenges
- Familiarity with meeting management software (Zoom, Teams) and document collaboration tools
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to pass background check as required for state commission work

Preferred Education/Experience
Experience processing financial transactions and managing budgets is required, along with a preference for candidates who have supported executive-level management. Experience in government, energy, or policy organizations is also preferred, and experience coordinating board or commission meetings is highly desirable.
