Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Sit/stand for long periods for training. Valid drivers license and ability to drive university owned vehicles strongly preferred.



Shift

Primary Days: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00p.m.; will require evenings,
weekends, overnight travel for training and outreach activities.



Job Summary

The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s Animal and Food Sciences department is seeking a creative, problem-solving team player for the Beef Cattle Extension Associate role. The Animal and Food Sciences department involves studying and applying the basic principles of nutrition, reproduction and genetics to the production and management of domesticated animals, and the Extension Associate is a key member of the team providing technical assistance, developing educational materials, and coordinating education and outreach programs for the Beef Cattle Extension Team.





Responsibilities include:




  • Planning and organizing educational programs developed by the Beef Extension Team for beef cattle producers, county extension agents, and other clientele as needed
  • Assist beef extension personnel with planning and implementation of field demonstrations, and on-farm visits to beef cattle producers
  • Data entry into electronic systems, including spreadsheets and record keeping software
  • Assist with development of program evaluations and reports
  • Aid with formatting and editing of extension publications including monthly newsletters, numbered extension publications, and social media posts.
  • On-farm participation in collecting cattle records, forage samples, and other related activities

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Able to effectively communicate and relay information to diverse and non-scientific audiences. Basic knowledge of beef cattle production systems and practices. Self starter, interested in helping provide training and educational materials to beef cattle producers and county extension agents.
