Position is located at Maine Chance Farm, Lexington, KY.
The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food & Environment department of Animal & Food Sciences seeks a self-motivated dependable individual with a passion of equine sciences with good critical, planning and communication skills for the Animal Resource Coordinator role. The Animal Resource Coordinator is a key member of the Horse Unit team. The position works with the unit at Maine Chance Farm using in-depth knowledge of equine health, reproduction, nutrition and facilities to ensure the proper completion of research projects, undergraduate classes, extension events and animal care in compliance with university needs.
About the Role:
If you’re passionate about working with horses in a hands-on farm environment, this role blends leadership, animal care, and daily operations. You’ll lead and support a team, manage supplies and documentation, and use your expertise to ensure exceptional care for the horses while maintaining safe, well-kept facilities. This is an essential role dedicated to animal well-being, including during emergency closures, and hours may vary with seasonal farm needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays—offering a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Attention to detail, organization and planning skills. In-depth knowledge with normal and abnormal horse health, ability to assess animal well-being and make animal care decisions.
