Job Summary:

Situated within the Office of Residence Life (ORL), the Area Coordinator (AC) role is responsible for fostering a vibrant, safe, and inclusive residential community that supports student success, personal development, and engagement on campus. This position aims to provide a residential environment that supports student development and the mission of the university.

The Area Coordinator reports to the Director of Residence Life. Position is a 40 plus hour/week live-in position, including a University assigned meal plan during the academic year, with rotating on call/after-hours responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University as demonstrated by the University Ideal Characteristics.   • Work with the Executive Director of Residence Life & Housing, the Assistant Director of Housing, the Resident Assistant (RA) staff, Community Standards, and Public Safety teams to develop a residential environment that supports the academic mission of the University and that balances the need for sleep, study, and community development.
  • Supervise and evaluate student Resident Assistant staff.
  • Conduct bi-weekly RA staff meetings and bi-weekly individual Resident Assistant one-on-one meetings.
  • Serve as a Community Standards Conference Officer when necessary.
  • Serve as the first level of response for on-call RA’s during and after business hours. It is available for coverage during break and holiday periods as needed.
  • With the Executive Director of Residence Life/Assistant Director of Housing, plays an active role in the development, coordination, and implementation of RA training and RA selection processes.
  • Assist the Executive Director/Assistant Director with the implementation of housing processes, such as residence hall marketing, room selection, and new student assignments.
  • Assist with all major ORL & University Life programming efforts.
  • Assist the Executive Director/Assistant Director with building operations of residential facilities including opening and closing of the halls.
  • Develop proficiency and maintain skills in using eRezLife and other platforms as needed.
  • This position is part of the “essential personnel” required to be on campus in the event of any campus emergency/shut down situations (e.g., weather, pandemic, etc.).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director/Assistant Director.
  • Serves on university-wide committees as assigned.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values, and goals of Alvernia University.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s/Certification in Higher Education preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Resident Assistant strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and leadership skills required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
