Job Description

Harvard Federal Credit Union (Harvard FCU) is seeking an Assistant Branch Manager! Our ideal candidate will focus on providing exceptional customer experience in all member touchpoints including in person, phone, and digital interactions and communications. In addition, they will be responsible for assisting the Branch Manager, and providing timely, accurate service to all members. While this position will train at one of our locations, its primary branch will be in Harvard Square. The branch location is subject to change, based on business needs.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

As a key leadership position, the Assistant Branch Manager leads by example and is responsible for assisting the Branch manager in the day-to-day branch operations.

Typical responsibilities:

  • Assist the Branch Manager:
    • with training, coaching, and mentoring staff at all levels. Coordinate with the Learning and Development department to ensure staff training needs are met.
    • with staff scheduling and vacation requests in the Branch Manager's absence.
    • to prepare for team meetings and huddles; facilitate meetings in the Branch Manager's absence.
  • Resolve personnel issues as they arise, escalating issues to the Branch Manager as appropriate.
  • Contribute to staff performance reviews and providing recommendations for promotions.
  • Ensure efficient branch operations.
  • Oversee cash handling and financial transactions.
  • Support:
    • staff with difficult members and complex issues; main point of contact for escalated member cases.
    • marketing and community outreach efforts, and develop strong working relationships within the community to encourage member retention and growth.
  • Coach staff on sales techniques and support them meeting growth and sales goals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on transaction processing and Harvard FCU products and services.
  • Maintain Credit Union operating methods, policies, and procedures, and evaluate and implement improvements.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all systems used in the Retail department.
  • Work with Business Applications and IT to troubleshoot routine systems issues and assist the Branch Manager in resolving complex and ongoing system issues.
  • Monitor Slack channel to ensure questions are addressed in a timely fashion.
  • Increase member satisfaction through problem resolution and the Harvard FCU member appreciation program.
  • Identify opportunities for new business and business accounts.
  • Complete required annual training for Bank Secrecy Act (BSA); complete Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), adhere to the Customer Identification Program (CIP) Policy, report suspicious activity to the BSA Officer, perform Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) inquiries, complete compliance courses, and branch robbery procedures.
  • Travel at late notice to provide coverage at any branch, depending on the needs of the business.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications are the minimum threshold a candidate must meet in order to be considered for this role.

  • High school graduate
  • 2+ years of related banking/credit union experience required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate others.
  • Familiarity with federal and state banking regulations.
  • Enthusiasm, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
  • Proven customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish.
  • Comfort working in the diverse and multicultural environment of Harvard University and affiliate organizations.
  • Must be eligible to become a registered Notary Public.

Additional Information

Working Conditions: Onsite work is performed in an office setting.

Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week with occasional Saturday mornings on rotation. This position is fully on site.
