Job Description

The Assistant Director will play a critical role in expanding the impact and capacity of mobile health clinics across the U.S. by developing and executing programs that enhance mobile clinics’ ability to serve diverse communities. In close collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff, this person will lead Mobile Health Map including day-to-day operations and overall strategic development. This is a new role on a growing team that requires a relationship builder who can toggle easily between the big picture aims (i.e. strengthening the field of mobile healthcare, ensuring mobile clinics receive the support they need, etc.) and the practical hands-on work of delivering high quality tools and services (troubleshooting technology problems, managing staff and contractors, analyzing data, writing grant proposal and reports, presenting at conferences and webinars, etc.).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day operations of Mobile Health Map, ensuring delivery of high-quality tools, resources, and services to mobile clinics across the U.S.
  • Shape and guide the program’s long-term strategic direction, working with national workgroups and sector leaders to set priorities that strengthen the field.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate organizational Revision 06.16.25 frameworks responding to emerging trends—such as federal policy shifts, rural health, or maternal health—ensuring programmatic agility and relevance.
  • Act as principal driver in the identification, design, and execution of new initiatives; draft program proposals, case studies, statements of work (SOWs), and lead grant-writing efforts.
  • Serve as an organizational ambassador in national alliances, coalitions, and policy forums—including serving on national workgroups alongside prominent public health leaders.
  • Present key findings, innovations, and research through conferences, webinars, and advisory panels; co-author reports, toolkits, manuscripts, blog posts, and public presentations.
  • Lead sector-wide outreach and advocacy efforts; build and strengthen high-value partnerships with universities, public health organizations, funders, policymakers, and health systems.
  • Lead development and fulfillment of contracts and grant agreements, including serving as Principal Investigator (PI) on designated sponsored projects (via special exception processes).
  • Create project budgets, develop and monitor deliverables, and oversee all reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Foster the development of new funding streams and strategic business growth opportunities, managing funder relationships throughout the lifecycle.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the professional growth of staff, students, and volunteers; cultivate a high-performing, collaborative, and equity driven team culture. Lead and coordinate with external contractors and vendors (e.g., web developers, data scientists), managing scopes of work, budgets, and timelines.
  • Set clear expectations and maintain accountability for quality, efficiency, and project delivery.
  • Lead development and deployment of toolkits, online resources, guides, and dashboards tailored to the needs of diverse mobile health programs.
  • Use data-driven insights to inform programmatic and strategic decisions, supporting continuous improvement and sector-wide impact.

  • Proven track record in relationship management, including building and nurturing partnerships to achieve shared objectives.
  • Exceptional manager of people, adept at building rapport, providing clear and consistent feedback, and effectively managing conflict and performance issues.
