As an assistant director of student success and advising, you will help students match their interests, skills, and abilities with an undergraduate program. You will oversee student success advisers as they guide students through major declaration, course selection, sequencing, and registration, and provide accurate information about all academic and financial policies and procedures. As part of your supervisory responsibilities, you will on-board new hires, develop training topics and techniques, and provide ongoing support. Responsibilities include the organization and development of biweekly team meetings to share updates, the identification of department areas that need improvement, and the management of a caseload of 150 students.

In this role, you will support the director with daily projects and tasks, including office management, handling adviser caseloads, and compiling reports. You will write and edit materials for university publications, training manuals, and websites, acting as the communication liaison to oversee print requests. Additionally, you will identify development opportunities, implement and assess persistence-related initiatives, and provide career-focused counseling and resources for students, along with assessments that improve faculty advisement. Responsibilities include oversight of program assessments to promote student success and retention, evaluations and recommendations for course scheduling and curriculum needs, and advisement on financial options for students and their families. In partnership with financial aid specialists, you will provide accurate information on applications and student financial aid processes, including federal and state aid, payment plans, alternative loans, and other relevant topics.

The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills. The candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, meets deadlines, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team. They also possess a strong understanding of Title IV regulations.

Minimum qualifications:    

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred qualifications:    

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in higher education advising, financial aid, or counseling
  • Experience in a supervisory position

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
