General Summary

The Department of Special Education & Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Education at Eastern Michigan University, seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position within its Special Education Program. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start in Fall 2027.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
• Design and deliver in-person, hybrid, remote (e.g., satellite locations), and online instruction within two or more of the program's current categorical disability areas (undergraduate and graduate levels) for which its special education administration specialist degree may be one of them, as well as within the program's new forthcoming comprehensive undergraduate licensure pathway.
• Design curriculum and enact pedagogy that reflect and support current trends of best practices, inclusive excellence, diversity, equity, state standards, and the special education programmatic needs of local K-12 school districts.
• Provide academic and scholarly research advising to undergraduate and graduate students.
• Engage in research and scholarly activities relative to the university's R2 ranking and in accordance with the program's criteria for tenure and promotion.
• Provide service at the program, department, college, and university levels.
• Meet all contractual obligations for tenure-track faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in Special Education or related field from an accredited institution, completed and conferred by date of appointment and no later than one week prior to the start of the 2027-2028 academic year.
• Three or more years of P-12 special education teaching experiences related to the appointment.
• Experience in and/or knowledge about the preparation of special education teacher candidates from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds, including first-generation, urban, and second-career/adult learners, as well as in-service educators pursuing advanced credentials
• Experience in and/or knowledge about in-person, hybrid, remote, and/or online (asynchronous and/or synchronous) instructional design and delivery.
• Experience in and/or knowledge about how to address diversity, equity, and inclusion within a special education teacher preparation program, including within a special education administration specialist degree (if applicable).
• An emergent/active scholarly agenda related to the appointment and the program's criteria for tenure and promotion.

• Previous higher education teaching experience related to the appointment
• Experience with acquiring or pursuing external research funding
