Assistant/Associate Professor of PathologyUIW MissionPosition SummaryThe Department of Applied Biomedical Sciences invites candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor of Pathology within the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM). This full-time, non-tenure, faculty position will teach in the area of Pathology and is responsible for facilitating small interactive group sessions engaging in case-based and large group discussions.In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities, as assigned.Essential Functions• Per the UIWSOM mission, accreditation standards, and UIW guidelines, implement a transformative curriculum that involves the collaborative development and facilitation of innovative and integrated learning strategies within a clinical context.• Engage with and educate the community with respect to osteopathic medical educational practices and scholarship.• Perform regular scholarly research and publication; support clinically relevant community-based, social justice-based, and medical education research and scholarship, consistent with the UIWSOM Research and Scholarly Activity Strategic Plan.• Integrate national trends in medical education and discipline into innovative educational practice.• Serve on committees and subcommittees as appointed by the Dean and participate in graduation and white coat ceremonies.• Actively participate in professional development activities to improve academic skills and facilitation of a medical curriculum.• Undergo training to qualify as a facilitator in the case-based learning program and UIWSOM curriculum delivery methods.• Actively engage in student mentoring and advising.• Advise students and provide individual help to students during weekly office hours.• Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.• Comply with UIW Faculty Handbook processes and policies.• Perform other duties as assigned.Job DutiesKnowledge Skills and Abilities• Effective instructional delivery.• Proficient in use of instructional technology.• Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.• Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.• Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community.• Strong communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal.• Demonstrated proficiency in ability to collect and manage data to track performance outcomes to ensure comparable educational experiences.• Strong team-building and conflict resolution skills.• Ability to strategically prioritize resources necessary for program support.• Demonstrated proficiency of knowledge and commitment to current trends in medical education and educational technologies.• Ability to teach in a collaborative, integrated case-based model, in which biomedical sciences are taught in a clinical context.• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.• Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.Required EducationDO or MD from a COCA or LCME-accredited medical school.Required Work Experience• Three (3) years of relevant experience within the field of Pathology.• Training in an accredited Pathology residency program.Preferred Qualifications• Experience working on a team of physician faculty in an academic setting.• Experience teaching in small and/or large group settings.• Experience in computer-assisted delivery of course content.• Evidence of teaching excellence and progressive leadership experience in a health profession's educational setting.• Demonstrated track record commensurate with an appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor.• Experience in the development of formative, summative, and competency-based assessment.Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.• Board certification or board eligibility in Pathology.Work HoursBased on course assignment.Physical DemandsNone specified.Posting Number: UN937POJob Type: Full TimeJob Category: FacultyDesired Start Date: 06/16/2025Position End Date (if temporary):Reports To: Dean, School of Osteopathic MedicineSalary: Commensurate with experienceOpen Date: 05/01/2025Close Date:Open Until Filled: YesSpecial Instructions to ApplicantTo apply, visit https://apptrkr.com/6197994UIW is committed to a policy of equal opportunity in employment, without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, citizenship status, national origin, age, marital status, disability, genetic information, gender identity or expression, veteran status, pregnancy, and religion (except in limited circumstances when religious preference is both permitted by law and deemed appropriate as a matter of University policy).jeid-7973e94cca88d14b9a6640b7c993acc6
