Auto & Diesel Support Associate Instructor
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Elizabethton is accepting applications for a dedicated and knowledgeable Full-Time Associate Instructor to assist in both the Automotive and Diesel technology programs. The successful candidate will work closely with lead instructors to support hands-on learning, lab setup, student guidance, and classroom preparation to ensure high-quality educational experiences for students pursuing careers in automotive and diesel technology.
This position requires strong technical knowledge in automotive and/or diesel systems, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to supporting student success in a hands-on learning environment. Candidates must hold an ASE Instructor Certification or be willing to obtain it within six (6) months of hire.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience or training in automotive and/or diesel repair and maintenance.
- ASE Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Ability to support diverse learners and work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous instructional or teaching assistant experience in a technical education setting.
- Multiple ASE certifications.
General Duties:
- Assist instructors with classroom and lab activities for Automotive and Diesel programs.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize tools, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Support students during lab exercises and provide guidance on safe and effective practices.
- Monitor lab safety and ensure compliance with industry standards and program protocols.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to maintain an engaging and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate attendance and classroom documentation as required.
- Communicate effectively with program leadership and staff.
Salary: $53,438-$61,582/Commensurate with Tennessee College of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time position, scheduled Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., totaling 37.5 hours per week.
- Instructional support hours are expected during Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Regular use of a computer is required for communication, documentation, and instructional preparation.
- Duties require normal periods of standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, and stoop, stand, bend, and perform hands-on demonstrations and work-based projects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Requires operating a motor vehicle to travel within the college service area and to other locations as needed for instructional or professional purposes.
