Posting Description

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a seasoned financial leader to serve as Associate Director for Area Office and Financial Reporting. Reporting to the Europe and Middle East (EME) Senior Director- Business Services, you will steward the resources that make safe, affordable housing a reality across Europe, the Middle East.

With overall responsibility for the EME Area Office including financial accounting, oversight, and the efficient management of the grant portfolio awarded to the HFHI EME Area Office, your responsibilities will include donor and management reporting, establishing and influencing HFHI policies and procedures particularly in relation to grant financial management, and leading and coaching an accounting team of four.

This position is to be based in Bratislava, Slovakia.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES?

Area Office Accounts Management:

  • Lead the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures in the areas of: budgets, cash management and forecasting, recording of documentation and financial reporting for the EME Area office.
  • Ensure standard financial systems and controls are established and maintained in order to provide appropriate levels of security and controls over the organization's resources and operations. Ensure full and appropriate control of all Area Office cash at all times.
  • Provide key support in the annual budget process including tools and resources, compilation, analysis, and support to budget owners
  • Supervise the maintenance of the Area Office accounting systems and data, and the presentation of financial data for both internal managerial purposes and external statutory requirements.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliations of advances and balances are carried out in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Review, approve and submit the Area Office financial reports to HFHI Finance.
  • Ensure that Nadacia HFHI operates in accordance with Slovak legal and tax regulations.
Financial Reporting:
  • Participate in setting strategic priorities for development of partnerships within grant-funded consortia.
  • Oversee the management of the EME Grant portfolio ensuring sound and timely preparation of financial reports to donors.
  • Participate in the proposal development for grants to ensure effectiveness and sufficient budget allocations and facilitate thorough understanding of donor requirements.
  • Review and approve financial reports to donors, approve financial reports from implementing partners.
  • Ensure accurate accounting for grants in HFHI books.
  • Participate in the preparation of subgrant agreements with implementing partners.
  • Review and approve disbursements of funds to third parties.
  • Highlight significant variances and cash management issues to EME Area Office Program.
  • Establish a system of financial reporting to projects’ leads.
  • Prepare quarterly and ad hoc financial reports as needed.
Audits (External and Internal):
  • Coordinate planning, preparation and completion of HFHI EME external Audit in line with HFHI external audit policy whilst ensuring that all timelines are met.
  • Coordinate planning, preparation and implementation of grant audits following donors’ requirements.
  • Review External Audit management letter recommendations with various EME teams and monitor to ensure that outstanding audit management issues are resolved in a timely manner, updating management and Internal Controls unit of progress.
  • Review internal audit reports of EME Area Office and supports the Internal Controls unit in resolving issues identified by Internal Audit Division.
International Transfers:
  • Review international transfer requests and confirm funds availability.
  • Ensure all transfers are tracked and reported accurately at Branch/National Organization level.
Policies and Procedures:
  • Leading development of policies and standard operating procedures to efficiently manage the portfolio of grants.
  • Establishing internal procedures to ensure compliance with donor-imposed requirements and deadlines.
  • Consults Internal Controls function in reviewing the effectiveness and efficiency of the controls.
Capacity building:
  • Lead the Area Office EME accounting team and supervises the financial reporting staff.
  • Identifies EME Area Office finance staff training needs and addresses such needs by conducting relevant training or finding alternative resources.
  • Provides effective coaching within the team.
  • Encourages EME Area Office finance staff to utilize learning opportunities offered by HFHI.
WHAT DO WE REQUIRE?
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or other
  • Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in international financial management, accounting or audit
  • 5 years’ management level experience
  • Fluency in both English and Slovak
  • Knowledge of Slovak legal and tax regulations
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
  • A demonstrated knowledge of finance, accounting and GAAP reporting
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical skills. Detail oriented and ability to work and interpret numbers, figures and other financial information
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent problem solving, and decision-making skills

Preferred:
  • 2 years’ experience within the non-profit sector
  • Donor financial reporting/audit experience
  • Experience managing and leading teams in an international/multicultural environment
