
Associate Director of College Counseling
Position Summary:
The Associate Director of College Counseling reports to the Co-Directors of College Counseling and assists with the daily operation of the college counseling program at Tabor Academy, including programs to assist and educate students and their families about the college search and application process, developing relationships with colleges and universities, and the creation and submission of school materials in support of the college application. The person who assumes this role must maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and be an excellent representative to our students, families, and the community. As a residential school, Tabor considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Faculty at Tabor can expect to contribute to the co-curricular and/or athletic program and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties. This position may include housing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing guidance and counsel to students, families, and faculty in all phases of the college search and application process
- Assist with various programs sponsored by the College Counseling Office and assume special projects and assignments as determined by the Co-Directors of College Counseling
- Empower and educate students so they can make thoughtful and well-informed decisions
- Write counselor recommendations
- Craft personalized standardized testing plans that align best with each student’s skills and aspirations
- Timely communication with families about their student’s college process
- Advocate for students throughout the college search and application process
- Stay current with changes and trends in school counseling, higher education, and DEI research and practices
- Foster and maintain relationships with college admissions representatives; meet with representatives who visit Tabor’s campus and attend college social gatherings as necessary
- Travel to college campuses to establish and maintain mutually beneficial relations with college admissions officers
- Pursue professional learning opportunities, including attending national and regional conferences such as NACAC, ACCIS, NEACAC, and BISCCA

- Have an intuitive understanding of the dynamics of an educational community
- Possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrate an ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding population; able to create responsive, caring and appropriate relationships with students, families and colleagues
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, presenting, listening, advising), and organizational skills, and the ability to interact and work effectively with students, parents, faculty and other employees.
- Understand colleges, their academic programs, admissions and financial aid policies and procedures
- Utilize strong organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities
- Ability to learn and become proficient with emerging technology as required
- Invest in the community and participate in the lives of our students outside the realm of college counseling
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and interest in working with teenagers
Preferred: Prior work in college counseling or college admission
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
