Job Synopsis

The Associate Director of Finance for International Program oversees the finance activities for MCC's International Program work around the world, including accounting, payments, the finance portion of payroll, grants, procurement, financial systems, and internal audit. Serving as the single point of contact representing both MCC U.S. and MCC Canada for International Program financial matters outside the U.S. and Canada, the position leads the International Program finance team and ensures the accurate, compliant, and well-supported financial management of a program shared between the two organizations. The position is jointly supervised by the Senior Director of Finance for MCC Canada and the Director of Finance MCC US.

Qualifications

Essential: 

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree​ in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • ​​Over 5 years relevant experience​ of progressively responsible finance or accounting experience, including at least three years in a supervisory or management role required.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with multi-currency accounting and financial operations across multiple countries or entities.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal control practices.
  • Ability to interpret and clearly communicate financial information to both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Advanced experience with financial accounting systems required
  • Strong supervisory and team-development skills, with the ability to lead a geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to work effectively within a shared, cross-organizational structure and to serve as a trusted point of contact for multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard office software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across MCC U.S. and MCC Canada and to travel internationally as required.

Preferred:

  • Experience in nonprofit, international, or multi-entity finance strongly preferred.
  • Experience with grant financial management and donor compliance preferred.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CA, or equivalent)
  • Experience with Sparkrock 365
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Finance for International Program carries out the following tasks and duties, either directly or through the staff they supervise:

Financial Management, Accounting & Reporting

  • Oversee the accounting activities of MCC’s International Program, ensuring the general ledger is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and ongoing monitoring of the International Program budget.
  • Oversee the splitting of International Program expenses and transactions into the MCC U.S. and MCC Canada books, ensuring accurate and consistent allocation between the two entities.
  • Oversee the monthly and annual financial close for International Program, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • Oversee the preparation of International Program financial reports and support the interpretation of financial results for the Directors of Finance, International Program Directors and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures are applied across International Program country operations.
  • Oversee accounts payable and the timely, accurate processing of payments to and on behalf of International Program locations.

Treasury, Cash & Multi-Currency Management

  • Monitor multi-currency transactions and foreign-exchange exposure, supporting the currency-risk-sharing arrangement between MCC U.S. and MCC Canada.
  • Oversee banking arrangements and payment mechanisms for International Program, including arrangements for countries where MCC operates without a local legal entity.

Payroll (Finance Portion)

  • Oversee the finance portion of payroll for International Program personnel, ensuring accurate calculation, funding, recording, and reconciliation of payroll transactions.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure payroll-related financial data, deductions, and remittances are processed accurately and on time.

Grants & Donor Compliance

  • Oversee the financial management of grants supporting International Program, including budgeting, financial reporting, and close-out.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional-donor financial requirements and restrictions, and the accurate and timely preparation of donor financial reports and statements of expenditure.
  • Oversee restricted and unrestricted fund management and cost-allocation methodologies for International Program.
  • Oversee the financial assessment and monitoring of sub-recipients and partner organizations, consistent with donor requirements.

Procurement (Finance Oversight)

  • Oversee the financial controls governing International Program procurement, ensuring that transactions are properly authorized, competitively sourced where required, adequately documented, and audit-ready.
  • Ensure procurement activity complies with MCC policies and applicable donor requirements.

Internal Audit, Internal Controls & Risk

  • Oversee the internal audit function for International Program, including the planning and completion of internal control reviews and field-office audits.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls across International Program operations, and initiate actions to correct identified control weaknesses.
  • Support the timely escalation, reporting, and investigation of suspected fraud or financial misconduct, in coordination with the Directors of Finance.
  • Facilitate and coordinate external, donor, and government audits of International Program as required.
  • Provide assistance to both MCC U.S. and MCC Canada on the International Program portion of their respective audits.
  • Support International Program compliance with local statutory, tax, and registration requirements in the countries where MCC operates.

Financial Systems

  • Oversee the Finance Systems Administrator and the effective use of MCC’s finance system across International Program.
  • Support the ongoing implementation, configuration, and improvement of the finance system for International Program country operations.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide supervision, coaching, and professional development to the International Program finance team, fostering a high-performing and mission-aligned culture.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, priorities, and escalation pathways within the International Program finance team.
  • Build the financial capacity of both finance and non-finance staff engaged in International Program work.
  • Coordinate with Area Directors on the supervision and oversight of the Regional Finance Coordinators for International Program.

Binational Coordination & Single Point of Contact

  • Serve as the single point of contact representing both MCC U.S. and MCC Canada for International Program financial matters outside of the U.S. and Canada.
  • Serve as a principal liaison between International Program field operations and the Directors of Finance for MCC U.S. and MCC Canada.
  • Translate the detail of International Program financial activity into clear information for the MCC U.S. and MCC Canada finance teams and other stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively across program, HR, and other departments in both MCC U.S. and MCC Canada to support International Program.

Supervision: This position directly supervises the International Program Accounting Manager, the Internal Audit and Compliance Manager, the Financial Coordinator for Grants and Procurement, the International Program Senior Accountant, and the Financial Systems administrator. The position provides indirect supervision of the Regional Finance Coordinators for International Program.

Base salary: $96,008.87 - Starting salary range in the US is $96,008.87 to $106,676.52. Start salary range in Canada is $93,419.00-$109,885.00.
