Position Summary
Administer and supervise the Competitive Sports programs, oversee Outdoor Adventure Program, and manage facility operations.
Duties/Responsibilities
- In Director’s absence, responsible for all aspects of programming and facilities in the Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Department.
- With the director, guide the Department of Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness in a manner that is consistent with the goals of the Student Affairs Division and the mission of the University.
- Supervise the Assistant Program Director- Intramurals. Provide direct operational and administrative oversight of a comprehensive Intramural Sports program.
- Supervise the Assistant Program Director – Outdoor Adventure. Provide direct operational and administrative oversight of the Outdoor adventure program, climbing center operations, bike/camping gear checkout.
- Supervise the Evening Building Supervisor and Morning Building Supervisor
- Organize, administer, promote, supervise and evaluate the Club Sports program operation including:
• Plan, schedule and lead monthly Club Sports Council meetings.
• Coordinate and maintain budgets for each of the Club Sport teams.
• Receive, coordinate and approve/decline team travel requests.
• Coordinate practice times and facility usage between all Club Sports teams.
• Maintain inventory, care and checkout of Club Sports equipment.
• Perform grade checks of all Club Sport members each semester.
• The development and implementation of an effective risk management program. - Responsible for the repairs/maintenance of the 100,000 square feet RFWC, outdoor facilities including the Broadway Recreational Complex, outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts, and the Clarke Lane field, as well as the repair/maintenance of 70+ exercise machines
- Assist with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of the student staff necessary for facility operation and the programs offered through the department.
- Oversee the daily operations and programs of the Recreation Fitness Center including supervision of welcome greeters, laundry attendants, floor supervisors, facility attendants, and interns/practicum students.
- Maintain equipment and supplies needed for operation of RFWC, intramurals, and outdoor adventure programs
- Develop and implement an effective risk management program.
- Develop annual evaluation reports, both statistical reports and budget analysis.
- Assist the director in departmental budget oversight.
- Assist the Director of Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness with the following:
• Award and Recognition program for Department.
• Various publications and promotional materials for Department.
• Help plan and implement fall student staff orientation and training for Department. - Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation, sports management, student personnel administration, or related field.
- Minimum of five years related work experience.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of tournament scheduling principles.
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience of outdoor adventure program management.
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience of club sport program management.
- Experience in budget development, program evaluation, and risk management.
- Knowledge of personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet, and electronic mail software.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to work with a diverse student and professional population.
- Ability to motivate colleagues and students.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Master's degree in physical education, recreation, sports management, student personnel administration, or related field strongly preferred.
- Ability to teach and conduct officiating workshops and clinics preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of Fusion software preferred.
- First aid and CPR Instructor certification preferred. CRSS (NIRSA, Certified Recreational Sports Specialist) certification preferred.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
- Standard university work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, the scope of this position requires working frequent, irregular afternoons, evenings and/or weekends as required by the intramural schedule, facility operations, and to meet departmental responsibilities, programs, goals, and deadlines.
- Occasional travel may be required.
