Job Summary
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is inviting applications for the full-time position of Associate Instructor of Diesel Powered Equipment Technology at our main campus in Knoxville. This role requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, with a daily schedule of 7.5 hours from Monday to Friday, typically from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Job Duties
- Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. - (Essential)
- Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi. - (Essential)
- Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
- Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events. - (Essential)
- Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; work to meet and exceed COE benchmarks for student completion and placement as well as accreditation standards. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required. A technical diploma in Diesel or Heavy Equipment Repair is highly preferred. Consideration will be given to a comparable combination of education and directly related experience.
• Must possess a high degree of knowledge of all areas involved in the diesel field
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of related work experience in the Diesel Field.
• Current ASE Service Technician Certifications are required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Post-secondary training of a diploma or associate's degree in a related field.
• ASE Master Technician in Medium/Heavy Duty Repair
• Teaching experience

• Must have a strong hands-on technical background in all aspects of diesel technology.
• Must possess the organizational and communications skills necessary to be an effective teacher.
• Must commit to remain current in the field of Diesel Technology.
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess computer skills and ability to utilize technology to enhance teaching.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
- Environment: Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. The majority of work performed (30 hours per week) will be instructing and training students, with the remaining 7.5 hours utilized for grading, recording attendance, and individual student meetings.
- Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and shop setting.
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience according to Tennessee Board of Regent guidelines within the range of $55,983 - $67,181.
