Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this evening instructor role is to deliver high-quality instruction that fosters student learning and cultivates a positive educational environment. The focus will be on teaching and assessing students in both classroom and laboratory settings. This position requires a commitment of 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, totaling 37.5 hours per week, with a 30-minute lunch break.

HVAC/R PROGRAM SUMMARY: The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program is an individual program that prepares students to work in various jobs in air conditioning and refrigeration. Students are prepared to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential and commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps, humidifiers, and electrical and gas heating. Students also learn the fundamentals of electricity, electric motors, and controls. Graduates of the program will be able to install and braze refrigeration tubing, diagnose electrical problems, install duct systems, repair light commercial equipment, recover air conditioning and refrigeration refrigerants, and locate and repair leaks.

Job Duties

  • Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. - (Essential)
  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi. - (Essential)
  • Professional Development: Remain current within the instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement; support student activities, including SkillsUSA, NTHS, graduation, and other events. - (Essential)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and administration, on and off campus. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
• High school diploma/GED and a graduate of an accredited HVAC/R technical program or associate degree in a related field from an accredited institution
• Three years of current work experience in all phases of industrial, residential, and commercial HVAC/R systems, including installation and service
• EPA Universal Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience
• NATE/HVAC Excellence Certification is a plus

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE: Utilize current College and department information technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Banner, Teams, etc., office machines such as telephones, fax machines, and copiers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The conditions herein represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

  • Environment: Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. The majority of work (30 hours per week) will be instructing and training students, with the remaining 7.5 hours utilized for grading, recording attendance, and individual student meetings.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom and shop setting, lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 30 lbs., operate standard equipment and tools, stand and climb ladders, and effectively communicate to exchange information.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience according to the Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines, salary guidelines between $55,983 - $67,181.
