Job Description

The SPD Processing Technician plays a vital role in maintaining a sterile and safe environment for patients and medical staff. They independently manage the cleaning, decontamination, and assembly of reusable instruments and equipment, preparing them for sterilization. This role involves operating cleaning and sterilizing equipment, monitoring instrument sterilization, and managing supplies for the Operating Room case cart system. The Technician also assists in inventory management, ensuring an adequate stock of supplies, and performs periodic physical inventories. They must maintain a clean and safe workplace, adhering to departmental procedures and organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, decontaminate, and assemble reusable instrumentation and patient care equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for sterilization and operate cleaning and sterilizing machinery.
  • Monitor sterilized instruments and manage supplies for the Operating Room case cart system.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventories of supplies and stock levels.
  • Perform periodic physical inventories and maintain a clean, safe workplace.
  • Complete all other assigned duties, ensuring quality customer service.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate teamwork.
  • Adhere to established departmental procedures and organizational goals.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety standards in the workplace.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Certified Registered Central Services Technician certification is mandatory, as per NJDOH regulations.
  • One year of experience in Sterile Processing, Surgical Scrub Technician, or a healthcare-related field is preferred.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is essential.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow established departmental procedures.
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions, including walking, standing, and lifting.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift weights, with assistance, as required by the role.
  • Maintains CRCST certification yearly, ensuring compliance with professional standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a sterile environment.
