
Chief Operating Officer
Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for the overall operational performance, growth, and strategic execution of Proliance Surgeons. The role serves as the strategic and operational right-hand to the CEO and bridges the gap between physician executive vision and day-to-day operations execution. The COO partners closely with physician leaders and the Board of Directors to advance Proliance's mission of delivering exceptional surgical and clinical care while ensuring long-term organizational sustainability.
The COO provides enterprise-wide leadership for Care Center operations, ambulatory surgery centers, ancillary services, patient experience, workforce performance, quality outcomes, value-based care and direct to employer partnerships, IT applications, marketing and operational excellence. This leader ensures alignment across Proliance's physician-owned and physician-managed organization, balancing operational efficiency with physician engagement and exceptional patient care.
The COO serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board, translating organizational priorities into measurable outcomes while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
The role reports to the CEO. The VP of Operations, Executive Director of Operations, Director of Marketing, Senior Director of IT applications, Director of Value Based Care, and other roles TBD will report to the COO.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, physician leadership, and executive team to develop and execute Proliance's strategic plan. Directly advise CEO on strategy and operational implications.
- Lead enterprise-wide initiatives that support organizational growth, market competitiveness, operational alignment and excellence, and physician alignment.
- Identify emerging healthcare trends, risks, and opportunities and develop strategies to position Proliance for long-term success.
- Drive organizational transformation initiatives with a focus on operational excellence that improve efficiencies, patient outcomes, and financial performance.
Operational Excellence
- Provide executive oversight for all care center, ambulatory surgery center, and ancillary operations.
- Serve as the executive operational decision-maker for all operational pathways including clinic, ASC, and ancillaries.
- Ensure operational consistency, accountability, and performance across the organization.
- Establish key performance indicators and operational metrics to drive results and continuous improvement.
- Lead efforts to optimize workflows, enhance productivity, improve patient access, and standardize best practices.
- Promote a culture focused on quality, safety, service excellence, and operational effectiveness.
Physician Partnership and Engagement
- Serve as a trusted partner to physician shareholders, managing physicians, and physician leaders.
- Foster collaboration between physicians and operational leadership to achieve organizational objectives.
- In cooperation with CEO support physician recruitment, retention, engagement, and leadership development initiatives.
- Partner with the CEO to ensure operational decisions align with Proliance's physician-led governance model.
Financial Stewardship
- Partner with the CFO and executive team to ensure strong financial performance across the organization.
- Drive operational initiatives that improve profitability, resource utilization, and long-term sustainability.
- Oversee operational budget planning and execution.
- Identify opportunities for growth, cost management, and operational efficiency.
Culture
- Partner with CEO to foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. Ensure our vision – Exceptional Outcomes, Personally Delivered, Every Day – is consistently applied to both the patient and teammate (employee) experience.
- Set clear expectations, performance goals, and development plans for leaders and staff.
- Partner with the CEO, physician owners and organizational leaders to foster a workplace where all teammates feel valued, respected, and empowered.
Leadership and Talent Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior operational leaders, at the corporate and local level. Build leadership capability and succession planning across the organization.
- Ensure ongoing delivery of leadership development training in partnership with the MSO.
- Ensure alignment between organizational goals and leadership expectations.
Quality, Compliance, and Patient Experience
- In partnership with the VP of Compliance ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and healthcare standards.
- Champion patient safety, quality outcomes, and exceptional patient experiences.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability for quality performance.
IT Applications
- Provide executive oversight of our IT applications team.
- Oversee the development and execution of the long-term vision and roadmap for the enterprise application ecosystem.
- Provide executive oversight of enterprise IT application vendor contracts and overall budget.
- Drive innovation and adoption of technologies that improve operational effectiveness and patient care. Oversee strategy and roadmap for AI associated with call center and operational technology.
Marketing and Communications
- Provide executive oversight of the marketing and communications department including all enterprise and local teammates.
- Oversee enterprise marketing for Proliance Surgeons as well as local care center / ASC support for targeted geographic strategies.
- Oversee corporate communications.
- Provide executive oversight of Proliance Surgeons brand.
Value Based Care
- Create and execute on an enterprise value-based care strategy, in partnership with physician shareholders and the MSO.
- Oversee the value-based care program including patient satisfaction, direct to employer relationships, Merit-Based Incentive Payment Systems (MIPS) and MIPS Value Pathways (MVP).
- Provide executive oversight of all value-based care teammates.
Organizational Growth and Innovation
- In cooperation with CEO drive strategic growth initiatives, acquisitions, partnerships, and new business opportunities.
- Lead operational integration efforts related to expansion and organizational growth.
Management Services Organization (MSO) Oversight
- Serves as the primary organizational liaison to the MSO
Accountable for establishing and maintaining a productive, performance-driven relationship with the MSO
- Establish and oversee governance structures — including regular operational reviews, escalation protocols, and performance scorecards — to ensure MSO accountability
- Evaluate MSO performance against SLAs and KPIs such as days in accounts receivable, clean claim rates, time to fill, and financial reporting timeliness; escalate deficiencies and drive corrective action
- Maintain sufficient internal operational expertise to critically evaluate MSO deliverables, identify gaps, and advocate effectively on behalf of Proliance
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive ambulatory healthcare leadership experience.
- Minimum 7 years of senior executive leadership experience overseeing multi-site healthcare operations.
- Demonstrated success partnering with physician-led organizations.
- Strong background in healthcare operations, financial management, organizational development, and strategic planning with a focus on ambulatory operations.
- Working knowledge of ambulatory IT applications and industry trends related to technology.
- Experience leading large-scale operational and organizational transformation initiatives preferred.
