Chief of Staff
Hours and travel: ONA works with healthcare workers who work across the state in 24/7 facilities. By the nature of this work, there are times where travel, working nights, and overnight stays are required.
JOB SUMMARY
Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) is recruiting for Chief of Staff, a crucial leadership role within the organization at a pivotal time in our history. Over the past several years, ONA has grown dramatically in scope and influence, cementing its place as one of the most powerful labor unions in Oregon. With this growth comes the need for strong strategic alignment, clear governance processes, and effective support for our Executive Director and Board of Directors. The Chief of Staff will be central to ensuring that ONA continues to deliver on its mission to advocate for the 24,000 health care workers we represent and the communities they serve.
Working as a close partner to the Executive Director and the Board, the Chief of Staff provides executive-level oversight of ONA’s strategic planning, governance systems, and labor relations functions. This role requires a leader who can anticipate challenges, build cohesion across departments, and ensure that staff and governance leaders are equipped to act decisively in advancing ONA’s priorities. The Chief of Staff is both a strategic advisor and an organizational architect, helping to shape the systems and processes that will guide ONA into its next chapter of growth and impact.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of relevant executive leadership experience in union, advocacy, political or related work, with supervisory and human resource management experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in developing comprehensive strategic plans within multi-faceted organizations and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in challenging, high stakes and diverse situations with a wide audience and experience in communication practices informed by equity lenses in pursuit of diversity, equity and inclusion.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This is a full time, exempt position. The salary is based on applicable years of experience and other relevant qualifications.
ONA offers an annual starting salary range of $175,000 to $205,000 depending on experience.
ONA also offers an exceptional benefits package including employer contributions (90%) to medical, dental and vision premiums, as well as employer paid long and short-term disability and life insurance. Opportunity to enroll in 401K plan after 6 months of employment which includes a 3% employer contribution, with additional longevity contributions after 5 years. Annual PTO is 25 vacation days, 8 personal days and 12 sick leave days.
