Job Description

Job Summary:

Harvard Innovation Labs (HIL) seeks an innovative, and highly motivated individual to join the team as Communications Manager. The Communications Manager manages and implements the communication plans and marketing campaigns that engage students and alumni from across the University in the HIL community, programming, events, and specialized offerings (Student i-lab membership, Launch Lab X, President's Innovation Challenge, funding opportunities).

The Communications Manager is an integral member of the HIL communications team and is responsible for planning and executing the digital communication strategy, content calendar, and distributing messaging across all marketing channels.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents.
  • In partnership with the Director, Communications and Marketing, and team, develops and manages the marketing strategy – from research and insights to campaigns and successful implementation.
  • Manages and tracks all campaigns across all channels; this includes individual and team recruitment for new programs across the academic year, as well as events, updates about our venture community, and promotion and celebration of newsworthy items.
  • Drives social media strategy, including planning, content development, ideation and community management; contributes to editorial development.
  • Manages key communication channels including the website, email, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, digital posters, marketing signage.
  • Responsible for managing HIL’s monthly newsletter from content development through execution and distribution.
  • Develops targets, tracks, measures, and analyzes marketing analytics across these channels.
  • Serves as business owner for external website by working across the Communications and Marketing team to determine what content and on what cycles.
  • The role manages any web content updates and projects, in partnership with Technology and Programs teams.
  • Promotes HIL events and manages and tracks event invitations via Eventbrite.
  • Manages planning, budget, and ordering for HIL merchandise.
  • Plans promotional campaigns for internal HIL workshops and events to current Lab cohorts.
  • Supports and helps promote University-wide events such as Harvard Start Up week
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience including three years or more of progressive experience in a communications, marketing or similar role.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Adept with marketing and CRM tools such as MailChimp, Eventbrite, SproutSocial, Adobe Creative Cloud, Salesforce (or similar CRM platform), Google Analytics, Craft CMS.
  • Strong planning and project management skills
  • Demonstrated track record with marketing and analytics/reporting, as well as experience developing and implementing marketing communications plans
  • Strong collaborative skills, but able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Robust work ethic in an innovative environment
  • Experience with targeted e-mail, social media marketing, and market research

This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday – Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

Work Format Details

This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
