Position highlights
As a general recruitment, the Connecticut Careers Trainee will be recruited to work within the Identification Section in Computer Crimes Unit.
The Connecticut Careers Trainee program consists of a 2-year training program for those with a bachelor's degree listed in the minimum qualifications below. Those with a master's degree in a related field will participate in a 1-year training program.
In this role, you will conduct full-process examinations while working alongside other lab professionals, forensic science examiners and will collaborate with law enforcement partners, as needed. Please note that this position requires the examination of sensitive images pertaining to child exploitation. The Connecticut Careers Trainee will receive training in Computer Forensic techniques. Training may include the following:
- Preparation of media for data storage; wiping of hard drives and other storage media
- Imaging/Extraction of data from digital devices for further analysis;
- Perform duplications of video and audio files and conversion of analog to digital formats
- Examination of mobile devices and install of brute force software.
- Analysis of digital media for presence of images, videos, keywords, internet history or other related data.
- Assists with the procurement and management of supplies/ordering within the unit
- Assists with performing administrative reviews on select Computer Crimes Unit and Multimedia cases in accordance with procedures and policies
- Perform related duties as requested.
This position is general funded, full-time, onsite, 40 hours per week, scheduled Monday through Friday.
We are seeking individuals with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in Forensic Science, chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology or a closely related field. Received college credit for completion of coursework relating to cyber security, computer operating systems or computer forensics/analysis.

DESPP is committed to protecting and improving the quality of life for all by providing a broad range of public safety services, training, regulatory guidance and scientific services utilizing enforcement, prevention, education and state of the art science and technology.
The Division of Scientific Services provides forensic support to local, state and federal agencies throughout Connecticut. This division is divided into three analytical sections. They are the Chemical Analysis section (including toxicology, controlled substances, and chemistry), the Forensic Biology/DNA section, and the Identification section (including computer crimes).
The laboratory also has two non-analytical sections which include: the Quality section and the Laboratory Support Services section (including administration, evidence receiving, and case management).

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

- Experience in interpretation of electronic data;
- Experience in the analysis of electronic data using various types of extraction software;
- Experience in using filters to sort data;
- Experience in recognizing digital file types and researching players or metadata;
- Experience utilizing a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
