Job Synopsis


The International Connecting Peoples Coordinator (CPC) in Cambodia will serve with the local MCC office, seeking innovative and creative ways to continue building understanding among people while fostering the personal, spiritual, and professional growth of young adult Global Service Learning (GSL) participants. They will also facilitate connections among Canada, the United States, and other parts of the Global South by planning and implementing learning tours for MCC’s constituency.

Preferred qualifications would be helpful for this position but are not essential.
  • Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum Experience: International experience required; MCC experience preferred

Key Responsibilities



The International CPC(s) will implement creative approaches to help achieve the following goals of the IVEP, SALT, and YAMEN programs:
  • Promote a theology of service that encourages participants to grow as global citizens who are active in social justice and peacemaking.
  • Provide opportunities for learning and mutual transformation through the development of intercultural skills.
  • Foster opportunities for spiritual growth, appreciation of Anabaptist values, and involvement in the local and global church.
  • Provide opportunities for participants to explore and develop their skills, cultivate a stronger sense of vocation, and serve alongside a local partner organization.
The CPC(s) will also plan, promote, and coordinate Learning Tours that facilitate the exchange of ideas and foster mutual learning between MCC’s supporting constituency and those with whom MCC works around the world.

1. Recruitment and Selection of IVEP, YAMEN, and SALT Participants: 20%

a. Work with the MCC Representative(s) to identify suitable SALT and YAMEN service assignments and create assignment descriptions for submission to the SALT and YAMEN Coordinators.
b. Identify suitable living arrangements for incoming SALT and YAMEN participants and help them move into their accommodations.
c. Recruit and conduct the selection process for outgoing IVEP and YAMEN participants.
d. Work in a timely manner with the SALT and YAMEN Coordinators to identify suitable applicants for assignments, conduct interviews, and select successful candidates.
e. With guidance from the IVEP Coordinators, guide outgoing IVEP participants through the visa and work permit application process, track their progress, and complete the required forms in time to meet established deadlines.
f. Collaborate with sending and receiving countries to establish visa processes for incoming and outgoing YAMEN participants. Take the lead in supporting outgoing YAMEN participants as they obtain the relevant visas.
g. Assist with the annual review and revision of the visa process for incoming SALT participants, answering country-specific questions as needed.

2. Provide Ongoing Support to In-Country SALT and YAMEN Participants: 60%

a. Provide local orientation for new workers, including arranging language study.
b. Intentionally foster opportunities for participants’ spiritual, emotional, and professional growth and provide appropriate support.
c. Cultivate participants’ awareness of the country’s or region’s political, economic, social, cultural, and historical contexts.
d. Form, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with GSL participants, local churches, MCC partners, host families, and MCC staff. Build trust by demonstrating integrity in actions and using a communication style that reflects MCC values.
e. Monitor relationships between workers and the partners and host families with whom they work and live. Assist in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges as they arise.
f. Fairly and consistently implement MCC policies and, in consultation with the Representative(s), Human Resources, and the relevant program Coordinators, assist workers in interpreting these policies. Conduct timely performance appraisals and prepare end-of-term reports for SALT and YAMEN participants.
g. Conduct regular, intentional check-ins with SALT and YAMEN participants.
h. Ensure that incident reports concerning SALT and YAMEN participants are completed within 48 hours while honoring the limits of confidentiality.
i. Conduct SALT and YAMEN performance appraisals, enforce policies fairly and consistently, assist with conflict resolution and problem-solving, and mentor GSL participants.

3. Plan, Promote, and Facilitate Learning Tours: 10%

Using the MCC Connecting Peoples Manual as a guide, plan, promote, and facilitate Learning Tours.
a. Accompany groups before, during, and after Learning Tours, as needed.
b. Cultivate participants’ awareness of the country’s or region’s political, economic, social, cultural, and historical contexts.
c. Nurture understanding of and respect for MCC values and witness. Coordinate with local partners before, during, and after each Learning Tour.
d. Arrange language interpretation and provide translation as needed.
e. Help develop new learning opportunities and Learning Tour components for groups.
f. In coordination with MCC’s Global Service Learning (GSL) department, explore ways to promote and offer Learning Tours designed for the country program’s target audiences.
g. Assist the MCC Representative(s) in providing hospitality to other visitors, as needed.

4. MCC Team Responsibilities: 10%

a. Participate in team meetings, retreats (three to four annually), and other team events.
b. Submit plans and reports to the MCC Representative(s) according to the established planning schedule.
c. Participate regularly in the life and worship of a local church.
d. Work with the MCC Representative(s) and service workers to meet residency requirements for incoming workers.
e. Fill in for the MCC Representative(s) as needed.

Salary Details

- Starting salary may be increased by up to 10% based on previous experience.

  • Travel to and from assignment is covered by MCC
  • Stipend: This is in addition to the salary with the idea to cover a variety of costs typically incurred by staff which are outside of MCC’s other benefits. The stipend is $350 USD/month for International Staff. National Staff (those working in their home country) will receive a stipend amount which is country specific.

  • Flex Time: compensation time off given when work or work-related travel occurs outside of normal work schedule
  • Flights home for International Staff: every other year, starts accruing after two years of service
  • Children’s Education Benefit
  • End of Employment Benefits: MCC provides 1 month of salary per year of service when National Staff leave, up to a maximum of 6 months. International Staff who fulfill the length of time stated in their invitations to employment or employment contracts will receive one month of transitional support of $2,400 USD to be provided for each full year of service, up to a maximum of 6 months, to be paid out at the end of employment.
  • Other benefits may be added based on applicable labor law and relevant policy.

This position is based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
