Content Taxonomist

The role

The Content Taxonomist will be responsible for executing the new enterprise taxonomy strategy under the direction of the Chief Enterprise Taxonomist for the Marketing group at Fidelity Investments to enhance content organization, retrieval, and governance across the company. This role will collaborate with various Marketing groups across multiple business units to ensure consistent and efficient classification of information, supporting multiple business objectives.

You are experienced in effective communication across a diverse set of people to obtain buy-in and consensus. You’re comfortable wearing multiple hats as a subject matter expert, educator, change agent, and consultant.

  • Implement the new enterprise-wide taxonomy strategy to improve content management and reuse under the direction of the Chief Enterprise Taxonomist.

  • Help lead the design and development of taxonomies and metadata schemas.

  • Ensure the enterprise content taxonomy is always the “source of truth” across the organization and manage change implementation in the enterprise systems.

  • Draft policies and procedures that will ensure proper control and maintenance of the taxonomy.

  • Participate in the decision committee meetings, agenda, business unit leads, and all subsequent key taxonomy actions.

  • Assist in the design and strategy of an interconnectivity solution between the enterprise content taxonomy platform and various systems, including content management systems (CMS), in close collaboration with IT and developer teams.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure taxonomy aligns with organizational goals.

  • Provide guidance and training to teams on taxonomy best practices and standards.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in taxonomy and information architecture.

The expertise and skills you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 5 -10 years of experience in taxonomy development, content strategy, content management, knowledge management, information architecture, or library science.

  • Expertise in designing and maintaining taxonomies.

  • Strong understanding of metadata, tagging strategy, and content workflow.

  • Proficiency in taxonomy management tools and software (experience with Progress Semaphore a plus)

  • Experience with content modeling and design is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable strategies.

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and consistency.

  • A desire to understand the “big-picture” of organizational problems and contribute to alternative solutions.

  • Experience in the financial services industry is a plus.
