Job Description

Job Summary:

The Raphael and Fletcher Lee Moses Mesoamerican Archive and Research Project (MMARP), currently residing at Harvard University, is a collection of materials resulting from the activity of an interdisciplinary working group of scholars, which for more than forty years has met in a series of conferences and other events under the leadership of Davíd Carrasco. The MMARP has a robust teaching, research, and publication life and serves as an educational resource for various events and exhibitions at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, including a Day of the Dead altar installed on the third floor and annual Día de los Muertos events throughout the museum. This is a 17.5 hour a week benefited position.


Job-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Archive’s yearly bi-lingual educational plan, with a focus on the maintenance and expansion of Archive collections relating to the integration of research, teaching and publication goals.
  • Develop processes to ensure safety, quality and accessibility of Archive collections, including bibliographic database, digitization of slide collection, and maintenance of website.
  • Manage the implementation of the Archive’s art/illustration program, focusing on photographic collection and imagery associated with archaeology and colonial codices.
  • Manage planning for/coordination of research agendas, educational events and special programs including conferences.
  • Manage Archive’s outreach programs with University development staff; act as liaison to donors, foundations, write proposals for/manage externally funded projects. With museum financial officer, develop/manage Archive budget.
  • Administrative responsibilities including: processing financial reimbursements and corporate card payments via Concur and Buy2Pay, making travel arrangements, etc.
  • And other duties as required.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4 years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • BA in a related field is preferred;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to prioritizing and follow through on given tasks;
  • Familiarity with research resources in Mesoamerican Studies;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills including expertise with bibliographic software/database management, presentation tools, such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, experience with website design and management.

  • Appointment End Date: This is a one year term position.
  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 17.5 hours per week. Flexible Schedule with most active time Monday through Thursday.

Work Format Details

This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
