Job Description
Job Summary:
The Apple Women's Health Study team at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is Seeking a Data Analyst to complete complex data processing and analyses on this large and complex dataset. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in Python and is comfortable working with ambiguous, big and messy data streams. The role will require delving into real-world digital wearables, survey, health tracking and electronic health records data and producing high quality exploratory analyses, publications and presentations. You must be relentlessly curious and have a knack for data wrangling and deriving clear analytical ideas and limitations from real-world health tracking data. In addition to using technical knowledge to complete complex analysis, you must be comfortable with rapidly evolving requirements and have excellent interpersonal skills.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
This position requires a self-motivated engineer with strong technical and communication skills to handle responsibilities including:
- Designing and building high-quality data analyses that have detailed documentation and are easily understood
- Using SPark to structure large volumes of data into tables, answer questions, or investigate issues.
- Developing new code to support the team with data parsing, processing and analyses
- Maintain relentless focus on performance and quality
- Communicating ideas, concepts and best practices to cross functional team
- Collaborating with stakeholders across an interdisciplinary multi-institution research project
- Working with subject matter experts to define high quality analyses plans and descriptions of the methods used for each analysis
- Monitor key data metrics to assess participant enrollment and engagement
- Performing other duties as necessary
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of one year from date of hire with the possibility of extension. Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a work sample with GitHub or other. More details will be discussed during the interview process.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
- Experience using Python
- Experience with APache, Spark, or SQL
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Informatics, or other health data related field preferred
- 2+ years of relevant experience
- Enthusiasm for and experience working with complex real-world datasets
- Implementation of computational methods for big data
- Solid understanding of fundamental Computer Science concepts
- Creative and strong problem solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Highly organized, creative, motiviated, and passionate about achieving results
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other engineers, researchers and clinicians by listenting, communicating clearly and actively sharing knowledge
- Experience navigating a matrixed environment and effectively work with and navigate dynamics on cross-functional teams

Work Format Details
This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only).
