Job Description

As an integral member of Harvard Law School’s Office of Communications, the Digital & Multimedia Content Specialist is responsible for creating and curating content for Harvard Law School’s digital properties, including the Harvard Law School (HLS) website and flagship social media channels. Working in partnership with the Social Media Manager, the Multimedia Producer, and Editor, and others across the editorial and digital strategy teams and school, the Digital & Multimedia Content Specialist will help strategize and create compelling multimedia assets, social media content, podcasts, and other dynamic content designed to underscore and amplify the school’s impact, support key initiatives, and engage its diverse audiences.

We are looking for candidates who possess strong communication, videography, photography, digital content creation, and project management skills and a high degree of initiative, creativity, flexibility, and self-direction. Organizational skills, professionalism, good judgment, and the ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in support of shared objectives are also critical to the success of this role.

In collaboration with partners throughout Harvard Law School and across Harvard University, the HLS Communications Office shares the excellence of Harvard Law School’s teaching, scholarship, leadership, service, and impact by producing, hosting, and distributing high-quality content that vividly illustrates for both internal and external audiences the story of HLS and its faculty, students, and alumni.

As Digital & Multimedia Content Specialist, you will:

  • Help develop creative ways to meet school-wide communications and marketing objectives and engage the school’s diverse audiences.
  • Identify digital content and storytelling opportunities and plan and produce compelling audio, video, photography, graphic elements, and written content for the school’s website and social media channels and to complement its news stories.
  • Manage pre-production, production, and post-production for a variety of multimedia projects.
  • Take portraits and campus event photography to support HLS editorial projects.
  • Translate data-driven insights into content recommendations and work in partnership with the social media manager and larger digital team to develop ways to increase web and social media traffic and engagement.
  • Stay up to date with the latest media techniques, production technologies, and social media trends, while maintaining the highest standards of multimedia and digital content accessibility and universal design.
  • Help archive and organize shared multimedia assets.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Three or more years of related professional experience in the communications field.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for people who have:

  • Demonstrated experience in photography, video and audio recording, editing, and all stages of production.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills. Must be able to listen carefully, communicate effectively, and proactively establish and maintain working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, staff, and faculty.
  • Highly skilled with media production tools such as DSLR/mirrorless cameras, smartphones, lighting and sound equipment, digital editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro), motion graphics, and video hosting platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).
  • A demonstrated track record of producing high-quality multimedia and other content for various audiences and digital platforms, including social media channels and websites.
  • Knowledge of best practices in social media, content strategy, accessibility, and familiarity with current web trends and tools.
  • Experience creating short-form and long-form content in both vertical and horizontal formats that are optimized by platform.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools and fundamentals.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, respond quickly and with flexibility to changing conditions, and see a project through from conceptualization to completion with a solid track record of meeting deadlines.

Additional Information

Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week; Full-time, M-F. May be required to work occasional nights and weekends.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
