Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Director, Digital and Creative in the Office of Communications and External Relations (OCER), the Digital Product Manager is responsible for overseeing all content and technology related to the Harvard Medical School flagship site and 60+ department and center “microsites.” As the product owner, this includes partnering with OCER colleagues on content strategy as well as the Web Development team in HMS IT to oversee refinement and expansion of the HMS Drupal web platform. This role will also function as the primary owner of OCER’s Salesforce Marketing Cloud instance, partnering with HMS IT to keep broadcast email lists accurate and ensure that SFMC is properly configured to support departmental needs.
The Digital Product Manager will manage OCER’s Digital Communications Coordinator, giving the Digital Product Manager full oversight of the web publishing workflow and email communications from planning to send.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversee internal and external development work on the HMS Drupal web platform
- Own HMS IT’s Agile project management process for OCER, including attending sprint planning meetings, ticket tracking, and backlog management
- Oversee relationship between OCER/IT and HMS web users and site owners on feature requests, training, and new site creation when necessary
- Directly supervise the Digital Communications Coordinator
- Lead, plan, and organize regular user meetings to present to 100+ users about new features, bug fixes, and field questions/requests
- Support editorial team (writers and editors)and content creators as they plan and publish science and community content for the website
- Work closely with HMS IT s to manage OCER’s instance of the email marketing tool Salesforce Marketing Cloud, making sure it is properly using HR and IT data to keep the HMS community and general public subscribers reliably receiving communications
- Collaborate with OCER colleagues and HMS IT to ensure that Salesforce Marketing Cloud is properly configured and scoped to meet departmental needs
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of web technologies and experience maintaining web content management systems
- Knowledge of email creation and sending tools as well as best practices for email reader experience
- Experience as both an editor and administrator with Drupal content management system
- Experience with email marketing and reporting tools, including Acoustic, Salesforce, Mail Chimp, Constant Contact, or similar
- An eye for visual design, specifically how fonts, layouts, and images work best on the web
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, work independently and in collaboration with team members, and oversee work of others, including those who are not direct reports
- Strong sense of modern web user experience and how best to present news stories and email newsletters
- Strong analytical, technical skills, project management, relationship building, and communication skills
- Creative, innovative thinker, action-oriented, versatile, ability to adapt in dynamic environment, resourceful, flexible, and honest
- Comfortable presenting and speaking to large groups, fielding questions, prioritizing and problem-solving solutions, and managing expectations

Work Format Details
This is a position that is based at a Harvard campus location with some remote work options available. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
