Job Summary

  • The Director of Admissions/Registration provides leadership and direction for all aspects of the patient access function including admissions, registration, financial counseling, scheduling, insurance verification, and patient information integrity. This position ensures efficient, courteous, and compliant access processes that support clinical operations and revenue cycle performance. The Director collaborates with hospital departments, physicians, and administration to optimize service delivery and promote patient satisfaction.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees and manages all functions of the patient access department including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services registration
  • Ensures accurate patient demographic and insurance information collection
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures to support regulatory compliance, data integrity, and timely processing
  • Manages staffing, scheduling, hiring, orientation, and performance evaluation for access personnel
  • Monitors departmental KPIs, productivity, and customer service metrics
  • Ensures staff competency in all aspects of registration, financial clearance, and patient communication
  • Coordinates with clinical and financial departments to resolve access-related issues
  • Prepares departmental reports and participates in budget planning and resource management
  • Responds to patient and family concerns related to registration and financial processes
  • Promotes a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

  • In-depth understanding of patient access and revenue cycle operations
  • Strong leadership, team development, and communication skills
  • Proficient in hospital information systems, EHRs, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and payer requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environment
  • Primarily office-based role with frequent computer use
  • Occasional walking, standing, and lifting of materials up to 25 pounds
  • Administrative and clinical access areas within a hospital setting
  • May require flexible hours including early mornings or weekends

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CHAM or CHAA) preferred
  • Certifications must be obtained within time frame required by facility policy

Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of hospital patient access, admissions, or revenue cycle experience required
  • Minimum three (3) years of management or supervisory experience required
