Position Summary

The Director of Athletic Marketing and Fan Engagement will provide strong vision and be responsible for planning, development, and implementation of athletic marketing strategies, branding initiatives, marketing communications, community outreach activities and game experience. The Director will seek to enhance the profile of Athletics within the University and externally.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and strategic marketing plan for the athletic department to enhance the athletic department's brand with internal and external constituents.
  • Plan and implement the promotions and game day activities for select sports, with emphasis on men's and women's basketball.
  • Develop and execute a communications plan to maximize ESPN+ platform and build on the strong media coverage of USI’s move from Division II to Division I.
  • Promote athletic events within the University community, specifically to students, faculty and staff and external community (including alumni, boosters and families).
  • Work in unison with Student Affairs, Center for Campus Life (campus organizations), New Student and Transitional Programs and Housing and Residence Life to increase student attendance.
  • Enhance awareness of and fan participation in women’s athletic events.
  • Work closely with Athletics Administration/ticket operations to develop ticket/marketing plans for selected sports to promote fan attendance and generate revenue.
  • Assist in executing key USI branding initiatives that uphold the image of Athletics and the University.
  • Work collaboratively to implement the execution of strategic plans.
  • Facilitate departmental obligations in conjunction with various sponsorship agreements.
  • Identify new and creative means to attract new customers to various athletic events.
  • Manage the athletic marketing budget for all staffing, resources and purchases.
  • Build relationships with various organizations to strengthen the visibility of Athletics within Evansville and surrounding areas.
  • Maintain knowledge of marketing trends and best practices.
  • Manage the creation of all collateral materials, including posters, schedule cards, flyers, etc.
  • Develop and coordinate the dissemination of promotional information through various social media channels and new technology.
  • Supervise and coordinate marketing and fan engagement volunteers and student workers for home events.
  • Manage an advisory group to assess game day programming, consult on enhancing attendance and crowd engagement and consider adjustments on an annual basis.
  • Coordinate on-field and on-court presentations with various University and external constituents.
  • Write formats for home events to ensure proper execution of timing for public address announcer, band, cheer, promotions, etc.
  • Coordinate scripts for public address announcer for each home event - highlighting sponsors, describing promotional activities and upcoming events.
  • Act as department liaison for interaction/scheduling and coordination of Archie the mascot, and as the direct employee advisor for Archie’s Army, the student organization.
  • Facilitate various content requests from outside constituents.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Athletic Communications, Assistant Director of Development and Athletics Administration to create a harmonious Marketing, Media and Messaging Team.
  • Work in collaboration with University Strategic Communication to provide consistent messaging to University constituents.
  • Create year-round email/social media campaigns to campus and community groups.
  • Maintain athletic brand standards and protect intellectual property of USI Athletics. Maximize merchandising opportunities.
  • Serve as back up game day administrator, if needed.
  • Participate in annual continuing education as required by the NCAA, Conference and/or Institution is required.
  • Adhering to all NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules and regulations is required at all times. All violations must be reported to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Director of Compliance or their designee immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in marketing, communications, sports administration or closely related field required.
  • Proficient in computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must demonstrate outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
  • Leadership experience in intensive, fast-paced environments requiring top-flight, time sensitive production execution and understanding of the importance of deadlines required.
  • Embody a strong work ethic, have a desire to work in collegiate athletics and have proven written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and execution of game production management, creative content development and innovative approaches in event production.
  • Valid driver’s license.


Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including but not limited to, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, etc.
  • Proficiency in music editing software a plus.
  • Knowledge of NCAA performances, brands and rules and regulations strongly preferred.
