How will you make an impact in this role?

The American Express Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) function provides second-line policy, framework, oversight, and control solutions to meet the Company’s legal, regulatory and risk management mandates in connection with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorism Financing (CTF), Sanctions and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC). The GFCC portfolio comprises all aspects of the Company’s first and second-line financial crime risk management (FCRM) activities, including all lines of businesses in the United States and both proprietary and non-proprietary global markets.

Reporting to the Vice President, Governance (Committee and Issues Oversight), the Director of Audit Management is responsible for overseeing Internal Audit and Second Line testing activities impacting the GFCC program. For Enterprise reviews, this role ensures audits are effectively managed, findings are appropriately challenged, and remediation is tracked to closure in alignment with enterprise and GFCC standards. For market-level reviews, this role partners closely with Regional Heads of Financial Crimes Compliance (RHoFCC) to support audit and second line testing engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of Internal Audit and Second Line testing engagements of the Enterprise Financial Crimes Compliance Program.
  • Review and challenge audit findings to ensure accuracy, risk-based conclusions, and consistency with enterprise standards.
  • Partner with Issues Management to support remediation, validation, and closure of audit issues.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Internal Audit and Second Line testing teams.
  • Provide clear status reporting and risk escalation to GFCC leadership and governance committees.
  • Coordinate audit planning, information requests, walkthroughs, and stakeholder responses.
  • Identify trends and systemic control gaps to inform continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with RHoFCC to support audit and testing engagements in all markets.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in audit management, compliance testing, or risk oversight within financial services.
  • Strong understanding of audit methodologies and regulatory expectations for financial crime programs.
  • Ability to effectively challenge while maintaining strong partner relationships.
