Our Internal Audit Group is a worldwide function with 300+ team members and offices across nine countries within American Express. Our mission is to protect and enhance organizational value by providing independent, objective, risk-based assurance, advisory services and to influence the way the company manages risk.
We are committed to growing our audit staff significantly as we continue to expand and enhance the Internal Audit Group. Our assurance and risk professionals have diverse backgrounds including internal controls, consumer compliance, technology, operational risk, financial accounting, data analytics, and banking operations. Our audit teams align to key risk areas and business units to ensure IAG can provide comprehensive and risk-based audit coverage. In addition, IAG has a Professional Practices group responsible for managing audit operations, quality, and standards; regulatory relations; reporting; training and professional development; and key internal capabilities and technologies.
About the Role:
American Express’ Internal Audit Group (IAG) has reinvented our audit process and is leading the financial services industry with our Data-Driven Continuous Auditing methodology embedding intelligence through the audit lifecycle. IAG’s strategic initiatives, combined with our greatest asset – our people – enable IAG to utilize advanced data analysis capabilities, provide greater and continuous assurance, forward looking risk insights, and help ensure quality products and services are provided to American Express customers.
IAG Analytics & Insights team is looking for those who share our mission and aspirations and are passionate about the use of data and technology in a collaborative, people and risk-focused environment. The Director - Data Management & Analytics, will lead development and enablement of Data & Business Intelligence (BI) solutions for IAG stakeholders, with focus on product ownership and management, leveraging enterprise capabilities. This role will combine deep technical expertise with strategic business acumen to build, deliver, and optimize data pipelines, products and analytic + reporting systems that empower decision-making and drive business growth for the department & enterprise at large.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategy
- Lead, mentor and manage a cross functional team of data engineers, BI developers and business analysts to for development & deployment of analytic solutions (including advanced analytics) across Audit portfolios
- Define and drive the strategic vision for data and BI solutions, aligning them with the organization's business objectives and goals
- Actively engage with business leaders on prioritization and demand management
- Ensure data and BI solutions adhere to the highest standards of performance, scalability and adherence to governance guidelines
- Solution Development & Architecture
- Oversee the design, development and implementation of data pipelines, layers, reporting systems, and analytic solutions
- Develop and maintain scalable architecture that supports analytics, reporting and self-service BI capabilities
- Ensure proper integration of sources, cloud platform/data warehouses and operational systems (including migration to LUMI)
- Provide expertise in BI and Machine Learning tools, capabilities (including Power BI, Tableau, AIDA for Machine Learning etc)
- Responsible for multiple simultaneous audit analytic projects of all sizes and complexity across multiple business areas within and outside of local region, in unfamiliar areas, and for different audit leaders
- Business Enablement
- Serve as a bridge between business users and technical teams
- Collaborate with internal IAG colleagues (Product/ Platform, Analytics & Insights) and cross functional teams like AET to understand their requirements and deliver appropriate solutions
- Drive adoption of BI tools and solutions within the business unit through training, change management and user support
- Innovation and Process Improvement
- Continuously assess industry trends, tools, and technologies.
- Identify opportunities to improve data quality, business intelligence processes, and automation.
- Drive continuous improvement in BI-related workflows, optimizing performance and efficiency.
- Responsible for training & development needs of colleagues by leading a series of Technical training initiatives around cross killing & up skilling.
- Governance and Compliance
- Implement and enforce data governance and data quality standards to ensure data integrity and security.
- Oversee the development and adherence to best practices for data access, reporting, and compliance with industry regulations.
- Project Management
- Manage the full lifecycle of BI and analytic projects, including scoping, planning, resource allocation, and timeline management.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, while meeting business objectives.
- Report on progress and outcomes to senior leadership, providing clear insights into project status and risk mitigation
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in data and business intelligence,
- 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Strong expertise in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik), automation solutions and data modeling techniques.
- Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Proven ability to design and implement end-to-end BI solutions and data architectures.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and driving organizational change.
- Expertise in data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Project management experience and familiarity with Agile methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on delivering actionable insights from complex data.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or advanced degrees preferred.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
