Functional Description:
The Director, Human Capital Risk Management & Governance role is a new position focused on managing workforce and people related risks across American Express globally. The Director will be a part of the CEG team (Human Resources) and report into the Vice President Talent Risk & Governance. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and delivering on the overall Human Capital risk management and governance framework at the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement sustainable HR Talent processes to assess workforce skills and staffing levels
- Provide guidance to CEG and Enterprise process owners on identification, assessment, control, measurement, monitoring and reporting of Human Capital related risk
- Learn CEG and People related processes, demonstrating strong levels of curiosity and willingness to present control improvements.
- Support the design and delivery of talent risk metrics and reporting to management committees, risk committees and boards
- Support regulatory exams as required, to ensure the company is prepared to provide necessary documentation, addressing inquiries from regulators, and demonstrating compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations
- In alignment with second line of defense risk oversight, develop incremental standards, testing and reporting related to Human Capital risks
- Collaborate with senior leadership, support the development of the organization’s risk appetite for human capital risks and monitor adherence to the established thresholds.
- Develop strong working relationships with partners across CEG and Global Risk & Compliance to drive Enterprise-wide impact
- Influence and help embed a strong risk-aware culture, encouraging proactive risk management behaviors at all levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8+ years experience in banking/financial services industry including experience with HR, People or Workforce Risk Management
- Strong understanding of risk management requirements and implications for Global Financial Institutions
- Strategic thinking skills, including translating vision into action, connecting dots, and bringing ideas to execution
- Ability to synthesize, analyze and present data to senior leaders to inform solutions and measure impact
- Ability to influence and partner across a broad range of stakeholders. able to collaborate and gain buy-in through influence and partnership
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience driving organizational and culture change management
- Proven ability to navigate a large organization, bring others along and influence change
- Superior organization, decision making and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work autonomously
Currently, the Company does not have a physical location in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area and, therefore, if you reside in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area the role will temporarily be deemed virtual under the Company’s applicable policy (the Amex Flex Policy). We anticipate securing a physical office location in the Charlotte, NC metropolitan area in the future. Once that occurs, you will be notified that your position will be converted to hybrid and you will be required to work in the office in accordance with the applicable Amex Flex Policy (currently under the Amex Flex Policy, hybrid colleagues are required to work from the office a minimum of 3 days per week). You understand and agree that changing your role to hybrid designation and/or requiring you work from the office in accordance with the Company’s applicable Amex Flex Policy will not deem you eligible for separation pay under the Company’s applicable severance pay plans.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
