The Portland Trail Blazers Director of Performance Nutrition & Dietetics will report to the Director of Health and Performance and collaborate with the Nutrition Staff. In this role, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in multiple aspects of the Blazers organization, including nutrition and dietetics, as well as the culinary aspects of daily operations in a leadership role.

DAY-TO-DAY:
- Directly manage and oversee department staff, including a Nutrition Logistics Coordinator and/or Seasonal Nutrition Interns. This includes providing coaching, performance development, and support while ensuring the successful execution of assigned tasks and projects.
- Oversee the development of educational materials, resource creation, and inventory orders executed by the Nutrition Logistics Coordinator.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Chef to design and implement individualized, evidence-based nutrition plans for each player.
- Partner with the Health and Performance (H&P) Director and the H&P team to oversee physiologic testing, biomarker analysis, and supplementation protocols.
- Responsible for athlete body weight and body composition testing protocol, analysis and reporting.
- Coordinate and oversee preseason hydration testing and implementation of hydration protocols.
- Maintain accounts with third-party tested supplement companies for cost-effective ordering, manage yearly supplement budget.
- Order supplements and create individualized supplementation protocols tailored to each athlete's needs.
- Maintain a regular presence at practices, shootarounds, and games to provide education on and help optimize players’ fueling needs, monitor athletes’ hydration, and provide appropriate options.
- Monitor athlete compliance with nutrition programs and provide ongoing support and adjustments as needed.
- Serve as the primary performance nutrition resource for the health and performance staff.
- Coordinate with H&P staff to develop nutrition strategies to support weight management, gastrointestinal health, injury recovery, and illness.
- Create nutrition specific return to play nutrition protocols and manage execution with players.
- Work collaboratively with Strength & Conditioning (S&C) and Sport Science to monitor acute and chronic loads, weight, and perceived efforts to tailor individualized nutrition strategies and guidance to enhance performance and recovery.
- Monitor the quality and accuracy of food offerings during team travel to ensure alignment with nutrition standards.
- Oversee the fulfillment of supplementation and fueling needs for pregame, halftime, and post-game activities.
- Coordinate with team attendants to ensure athletes' hydration needs are consistently met.
- Document all nutrition interventions, protocols, 10-game reports, and end-of-season planning.
- Develop off-season nutrition programs for players, including remote consultation and guidance, to ensure continuity of care year-round.
- Provide nutrition counseling and guidance to coaches and staff as needed.
- Research and present emerging trends in hydration and body composition testing to help the H&P department stay ahead in recovery and preventative strategies.
- Stay current with advancements and research in sports nutrition to continuously implement best practices.
WE’D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE:
- Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Exercise Science, or a related field.
- 3–4 years of direct experience in performance nutrition, preferably working with elite or professional athletes.
- Previous experience supporting team travel and remote nutrition planning for athletes.
A strong understanding of the nutritional demands of high-performance athletes, with the ability to tailor strategies to individual and team needs. - A ServSafe Food Handler’s Permit, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- High adaptability and excellent interpersonal skills to thrive in a dynamic and diverse environment.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.
- Superior time management and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks independently.
