The U.S. Consumer Services business is responsible for our suite of consumer products, services, and experiences in the U.S., including our premium, cobrand, cash back, and lending portfolios, Membership Rewards, Global Travel & Lifestyle Services, the Centurion Lounge network, our Global Dining and Resy businesses, and best-in-class marketing programs across customer, prospect, and partner channels. The USCS team is focused on making membership an indisputable competitive advantage and helping each other become better leaders every day. Within U.S. Consumer Services, the Consumer Banking Organization is committed to providing members with Everyday Banking products that give members unparalleled value, service and convenience. This recently formed team is driving AXP’s innovation for banking services, identifying Member needs’ and innovating around new digital banking products. The Director, Exam Management & Governance, will lead a team that is responsible for ensuring our Consumer Deposit Products (Checking, Savings and Time Deposits) are operating in accordance with our promises to our members as well as meeting all regulatory and policy obligations. This leader will guide a dedicated team responsible for managing all regulatory audits and exams, third-party oversight, governance of Consumer Banking-owned procedures, Global Records Management (GRM), and tax information reporting. The Consumer Banking team is responsible for driving AXP’s innovation for banking services, identifying Member needs and innovating new digital banking products. Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Manage all regulatory audits and exams, ensuring timely, accurate responses and sustainable closure of findings. Drive proactive governance that anticipates risks before it surfaces and enabling an exam-ready, rather than exam-reactive team 1LOD.
- Oversee third-party partners to ensure their execution aligns with regulatory standards, Amex policy, and contractual SLAs.
- Maintaining rigorous record retention practices and adherence to American Express Global Records Management policies, controls, and standards within the product management team.
- Lead ADA governance, ensuring our digital experiences meet accessibility standards and reflect our brand promise of inclusion.
- Oversee and tax information reporting, ensuring we meet our obligation to furnish and file in an accurate, timely, and compliant manner.
- Maintain a library of Consumer Banking Product Management procedures and standards and ensure annual review and approval.
The following qualifications will be key to success:
Ideal candidate will be highly execution focused with strong project management skills, outstanding leadership, excellent communication and influence management abilities as well as meeting the following:
- Prior experience in Consumer Deposits strongly preferred
- Strong experience in past controls, compliance or operational excellence focused roles
- Strong affinity for process management and quality assurance
- Outstanding interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills with the ability to work with partners across different functions and connect with all levels of employees
- Prior experience operating within complex, cross-functional teams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Positive “roll-up your sleeves” attitude and ability to work with ‘start-up’ mentality
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment to deliver multiple priorities under tight timelines
- Committed people leader with high level of integrity and a track record of developing and inspiring others
- 7+ years of experience in financial services
Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
