Director of Project Manager, OnBrand

The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) organization has a mission to create marketplace demand and drive commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative products, partnerships, marketing, and customer experiences.

OnBrand is American Express’ In-House Creative agency, our agency is on journey for an exciting expansion. How will you make an impact in this role?

As Director of Project Management within OnBrand, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping how creative work is delivered across the Consumer Business Unit. You will lead end-to-end creative program delivery across complex content ecosystems — including video, digital, social, and emerging channels — ensuring work is strategically aligned to Consumer audience needs, Brand standards, and business objectives.

You will serve as a partner to senior leaders, translating enterprise and marketing priorities into clear, executable delivery frameworks that balance speed, quality, and rigor. This includes leading complex, high-visibility initiatives that require tight coordination across Above-the-Line efforts, internal stakeholders, and external partners.

A key dimension of this role is driving AI-enabled transformation within content development. You will oversee the responsible adoption of AI tools and workflows, ensuring they are implemented in compliance with enterprise standards while delivering meaningful gains in efficiency, scalability, and creative impact. You will partner closely with Account Management, Creative, Strategy, Production, Technology, Legal, and Risk teams to define best practices, governance, and reporting that bring transparency and confidence to AI-enabled delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end (E2E) creative program delivery across complex content ecosystems, including video, digital, social, and emerging channels, ensuring alignment to Consumer audience needs, Brand standards, and business objectives
  • Serve as a strategic partner to senior leaders, leading high-visibility, complex initiatives and translating enterprise priorities into clear, executable delivery plans
  • Provide oversight and governance for AI-enabled content development, ensuring responsible use, compliance with enterprise standards, and integration of best-practice workflows across the creative lifecycle
  • Drive adoption of AI tools and capabilities in content development to improve speed, scalability, and effectiveness while maintaining creative excellence and human oversight
  • Partner with Creative, Strategy, Production, Technology, Legal, and Risk teams to define AI use cases, governance models, and operating standards
  • Lead coordination across Brand Design & Identity to ensure consistency, coherence, and Brand integrity through the line
  • Ensure strong linkage across Above-the-Line initiatives and collaboration with internal and external agency partners to deliver integrated, high-impact programs
  • Establish clear delivery frameworks, operating models, and workflows that enable scale, transparency, and predictability across Consumer programs
  • Provide clear, consistent reporting and visibility into program health, risks, timelines, resourcing, and financials for senior leadership
  • Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate risks across projects and portfolios, surfacing tradeoffs and recommendations early
  • Lead and develop a high-performing Project Management organization, setting standards for excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Drive strong resource planning, utilization, and financial management to ensure delivery efficiency and agency profitability
  • Champion continuous improvement by evaluating tools, processes, and delivery models, incorporating industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Define and lead the vision for the future of Consumer project delivery, positioning OnBrand as a strategic, transformational partner to the Consumer Business Unit
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and innovation across cross-functional teams and partner agencies
  • Typically reports to VP, Operations & Production
  • This position will have direct reports and indirect reports

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a creative, advertising, or in-house agency environment, with demonstrated leadership across complex, multi-channel programs
  • Proven experience leading end-to-end delivery of large-scale creative and content initiatives, including video, digital, social, and integrated marketing channels with AI technology
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with senior leaders and executive stakeholders, managing high-visibility initiatives with complex dependencies
  • Strong understanding of content development workflows and the creative lifecycle, with experience integrating new tools or technologies into delivery models
  • Experience driving operational rigor, including scope definition, timeline development, budget management, and resource planning across portfolios
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire high-performing project management teams, including senior-level managers
  • Strong understanding of Brand standards and experience ensuring consistency and quality through the line
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly articulate risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, highly matrixed environments and navigate ambiguity with confidence
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-management skills, with a track record of delivering positive outcomes
  • High level of proficiency in project management tools, workflow systems, and reporting frameworks
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
