How will you make an impact in this role?
The U.S. Consumer Services Team is responsible for our suite of consumer products, services, and experiences in the U.S., including our premium, cobrand, cash back, and lending portfolios, Membership Rewards, Global Travel & Lifestyle Services, the Centurion Lounge network, our Global Dining and Resy businesses, U.S. Consumer Banking, and best-in-class marketing programs across customer, prospect, and partner channels. The USCS team is focused on making membership an indisputable competitive advantage and helping each other become better leaders every day.
The U.S. Consumer Marketing team (USCM) is part of the US Consumer Services Group and is responsible for making membership essential by creating and delivering world class marketing for our differentiated products and services that drives demand and inspires engaged card members across the customer lifecycle.
The Prospect, Partner, & Customer Growth team within the US Consumer Marketing Group is responsible for delivering best-in-class marketing through digital and direct channels to drive conversion of qualified applicants in the competitive landscape.
The Director, Search Marketing will lead the evolution of American Express’s Search discipline - across both Paid and Natural Search - to drive business growth today while shaping how our brand shows up in the next generation of discovery ecosystems. This leader will oversee a multi-million-dollar Search program spanning Card and Non-Card products as well as Credit Intel, our flagship consumer content hub, to ensure American Express continues to be discoverable, relevant, and influential in an AI-driven world.
This is a unique opportunity to redefine how Search operates at scale - from mastering today’s performance engines to designing the next era of customer discovery, content strategy, and conversion. The role requires a leader who can combine strategic foresight with operational excellence, partnering across American Express to deliver both immediate impact and long-term transformation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a high-performing team and agency partners to drive acquisition, engagement, and brand outcomes across Paid and Natural Search.
- Define and deliver the strategic roadmap for Search, ensuring American Express stays ahead as AI and new discovery models reshape consumer behavior.
- Oversee multi-million-dollar Paid Search programs across Card and Non-Card portfolios, including forecasting, budgeting, compliance, and performance optimization.
- Partner with Google, Microsoft, and other key platforms to identify emerging opportunities, pilot new capabilities, and shape the future of how our brand shows up across evolving ecosystems.
- Stay at the forefront of marketplace and technology trends to inform strategy, investment, and innovation across Paid and Organic channels.
- Lead the evolution of Credit Intel as a next-generation financial content and discovery platform - redefining its brand, content strategy, and role in AI-driven visibility.
- Develop an integrated approach to Paid and Organic Search that unifies creative, content, and media to own the customer journey from discovery to conversion.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Analytics, Enablement, Technology, and Product teams to accelerate innovation, test new tools, and future-proof the Search discipline.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record developing and executing holistic marketing strategies, with deep expertise in digital performance channels.
- Strategic leader who connects emerging marketplace, consumer, and technology trends to actionable growth strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to build, inspire, and develop high-performing teams and cross-functional partnerships.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with proven success driving alignment across internal and external partners.
- Skilled at operating at dual altitudes - delivering excellence in current programs while defining the future state of Search and content-led discoverability.
- Growth-oriented and intellectually curious, with a bias toward innovation and continuous learning.
- Exceptional communication and executive presence, with the ability to:
- Simplify complex strategies into clear, compelling narratives.
- Tailor messaging to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Guide conversations toward strategic alignment and decision-making.
Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
