Job Summary
The Director of Student Life responsibility is to establish, implement and maintain a co-curricular and extra-curricular agenda for Rock Valley College (RVC). This position serves as a liaison for RVC’s involved student population with College Administration. The Director will develop a comprehensive leadership development program to positively influence students, this includes developing a vison for programming, services, and learning opportunities, promoting the personal development and engagement of a diverse student population. The Director will also serve as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator. This position oversees the programming regulations and support of all Intercultural Student populations, including International Students. The Coordinator of Student Activities, the Coordinator of Intercultural Student Services and the Student Navigator Generalist/Administrative Assistant for Student Life report directly to this position.
Assist Dean of Students with student conduct administration and case management of Title IX cases. Coordinate, develop and implement educational outreach programs for Dean of Students office. Must exercise advanced reasoning and mature critical and analytical thinking skills. Lead or direct all office support functions. Model excellent customer service to students, faculty, administration, staff and others through all methods of contact. Confidentiality and independent judgment are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Related duties may be assigned.
1. Provide office management such as: budget monitoring, requisitions, assistance with inquiries, appointments, office inventory, organize, and maintain file systems, room reservations, requisitioning, registration for conference and webinars, and other office functions as needed.
2. Proficient in using all methods of electronic communications and social media
3. Maintain accurate knowledge of college-wide resources in order to respond to questions for both internal and external customers.
4. Independently prepare correspondence, reports, and memos. Excellent verbal communication skills. Facilitate communication at all levels with sound judgment and skill.
5. Assist Dean of Students with administrative hearings with alleged students.
6. Serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator – Meet with victim, respondent, and relevant person(s) regarding sexual assault, harassment, dating violence related concerns to explain Title IX process and regulation.
7. Evaluate the effectiveness of the intake and referral of cases, and monitor the resolution of cases.
8. Keep abreast of federal and state regulations and mandates to interpret for college compliance e.g. VAWA, Title IX, Clery, FERPA; keep Dean abreast of SEVIS and F-1 Visa regulations and compliance.
9. Regular attendance is expected.
10. Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.
11. Assist with the development and implementation of educational outreach programs for the Dean of Students Office.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with Dean of Students to develop and assess student learning outcomes as a result of prevention and intervention programming.
2. Assess outcomes of Dean of Students sanctions and develop strategies for improved services, educational programs, and communication.
3. Work in collaboration with RVC Personal and Success Counselors to provide alcohol and drug prevention education programming to students.
4. Work with Title IX coordinator to conduct trainings for students and staff regarding awareness of sexual assault and violence.
5. Participate in professional development opportunities as needed.
6. Develop, coordinate, and promote a comprehensive out-of-class program to ensure a balanced educational and social environment; Establish and implement effective strategies to increase and enhance student engagement.
7. Oversee the implementation and evaluation of annual goals, objectives related to leadership development and student activities. Continue the development and assessment of student life programming.
8. Serve as primary advisor to Campus Activities Board.
9. Represent the office at various community and/or college committees, and task forces; promoting existing and new opportunities and/or policies. Seek out opportunities for collaboration and maintain appropriate working partnerships, both within and outside the college community.
10. Manage Student Life and Intercultural Student Services annual operating budgets; coordinate and produce special reports to include financial/budget reports, funding and/or operating proposals, and various cost/productivity analyses.
11. Work in conjunction with PAIC, Student Life, and Intercultural Student Services Office on increasing the student engagement and achievement opportunities for our Multi-cultural student population.
12. Hire, supervise, and evaluate professional staff. Oversee work allocation, training, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution. Evaluate performance and make recommendations; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
13. Research and stay current on higher education programs, trends, and issues with student engagement and success. Join professional associations and attend meetings and conferences as needed.
14. Attend annual International Student Training in compliance with Department of Homeland Security, SEVP, UCSIS, and ICE regulations.
15. Oversee International Student Case Management retention plans.
16. Oversee the coordination of providing students (and faculty/staff) with opportunities to participate in volunteer, community service and service - learning activities when applicable.
17. Develop, communicate, interpret and enforce appropriate policies and procedures for student life; including student activities and leadership development. Develop and maintain current operational procedure manuals for various programs and internal operations. Evaluate unit operations and develop systems to monitor progress and improve procedures.
18. Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings, as required.
19. Continuously identify and integrate best practices in the Title IX investigation and case management process.
20. Attend annual Title IX training in compliance with Title IX regulations.
21. Must be willing to become a Designated School Official (DSO). A passport is required to become a DSO.
Qualifications

Knowledge of current and developing student retention issues, student development theory, and student personnel administration is desirable. Fluent in web-based

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Leadership, Human Relations Communications, Psychology, or related field plus one year of experience in working with club/organization advisement, student programming, or event planning is necessary.

11. Experience in setting and evaluating goals, formulating policy, developing and implementing new strategies and procedures, and student/leadership development in college/university setting or related area is desirable.
12. Experience in a community college setting is desirable.
