Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrician demonstrates the ability to learn new skills as member of the department, and reviews work of outside vendors and reports discrepancies to management.

The Electrician ensures that all electrical logs and reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner. This position works within the chosen trade, independently, to analyze, and correct complex problems, determines manpower need, materials needs, and deadlines for jobs or projects. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Assembles, repairs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances to support safe and continuous facility operations in a healthcare environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Performs routine maintenance tasks as assigned

  • Repairs, replacing and testing electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances

  • Uses hand tools and testing instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, test lamp, or growler

  • Inspects and tests electrical equipment, lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits

  • Assists in isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical components

  • Tests instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, testing lamp, or growler

  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets and other electrical system components

  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures and regulatory requirements

  • Inspects completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes

  • Estimates time and materials required for assigned electrical projects

  • Requisitions of new electrical supplies and equipment

  • Assists in mounting motors, transformers and lighting fixtures into position and completing circuits according to diagrams and specifications

  • May dismantle electrical machinery and replace defective electrical or mechanical parts such as gears, brushes and armatures

  • Perform and assist other trade skills as needed

  • Other duties may be assigned requiring skills of a like or less demanding nature.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education in topic or Equivalent Experience. High School Diploma or GED

  • Valid Drivers License required.

  • Not less than five years experience in installation, diagnostics and repairs of electrical systems in Commercial, industrial or institutional applications required.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of building codes, state requirements, healthcare regulatory standards and Joint Commission compliance required.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Occupational Hazard and Safety Precautions required.

  • Demonstrates ability and knowledge to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.

EDUCATION

Education or Equivalent Experience High School or GED required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Drivers License required

EXPERIENCE

Commercial, industrial or institutional experience on building maintenance and repair of complex systems such as low voltage (nurse call, security) and specialized equipment. Demonstrates knowledge National, State and Local Electrical codes and high voltage systems. Familiar with building codes, state requirements, healthcare regulatory standards and Joint Commission compliance required. Demonstrates knowledge of Occupational Hazard, and Safety Precautions, within various trades required. Demonstrates ability and knowledge to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must be able to climb, work in hot or cold environments within the scope of OSHA and other applicable jurisdiction regulations, perform confined space entry via manhole or other available ingress/egress points. Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and perform all required range of motions normally expected of a person performing maintenance work. Must be able to work in a strained position some of the time. Work whatever hours are necessary to maintain facility in a safe manner including weekends and nights

Employees must be able to work standing up, sitting, crouching or lying prone while properly using hand and power tools to perform assigned tasks. Employees must be able to work while wearing prescribed safety equipment including safety shoes. Reach with hands/arms and fingers are also required. The ability to communicate while working, both via speech and hearing is required. Vision requirements include the ability to see close work, see distance, use depth perception and adjust focus both for distance and for changing light conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Exposure to extreme heat dust and dirt, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances and potential injury. Exposure to extreme cold conditions for short periods of time (and with appropriate protective equipment) may be experienced. Exposure to humid and wet environments is also anticipated. Transiting from job site to job site within the environment may require the ability to bend, crawl and climb safely. The work environment frequently requires exposure to mechanical and electrical systems and equipment. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles such as dust and water vapor, possible electric shock, chemicals of a toxic or corrosive nature and vibration are also present (at times) in the work environment.

Requires meeting deadlines for completion of work, daily. Requires the ability to sit; stands; bends; kneels; climb stairs, ladders, and equipment; has good sense of balance to work on heights.
