As an Environmental Health Specialistwithin the Pickens County Environmental Health Departmentat the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Location: Pickens County Environmental Health Department in Jasper, GA.

Only current North Georgia Health District employees can apply for and will be considered for the position.

Job Responsibilities

The Pickens County Environmental Health Department is seeking a team-oriented and experienced candidate to fill a vacant position. The responsibilities will be in the areas of OSSMS, food service, tourist accommodations, rabies control, swimming pool, and body art programs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May assist with coordinating and managing environmental health programs for assigned areas.
  • Provides technical assistance and regulatory interpretation of environmental health laws.
  • Provides training and advocacy to the public, associates, and the regulated community.
  • Plans and conducts inspections or audits of assigned facilities/sites for compliance with applicable environmental health regulations.
  • Reviews and/or prepares applications, permits, and reports of a highly technical nature.
  • Initiates, negotiates, and implements public health enforcement actions as appropriate.
  • Conducts complaint or injury investigations as necessary.
  • Responds to public health emergencies and episodes as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND one (1) year of experience at the lower-level PH Envir Compl Specialist 2 (RCP121) or equivalent position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of all Georgia Environmental Health Training classes for new EHS employees
  • Completion of the GA Level I OSSMS Certification.
  • Completion of the GA Level II OSSMS Certification.

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
