Job DescriptionPURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Executive Director, Communications, Outreach, and Engagement will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development, integration and execution of all external relations activities, to include internal and external communication, media relations, constituent and community relations and image and branding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership and vision to create a strategic plan for community relations including, but not limited to marketing, media relations, publications, events and outreach
- Provide leadership to a cross functional implementation team including academic & student services leadership teams, in the areas of credit and continuing education courses and programs, corporate training, economic development services, and cultural events for the internal and external community
- Participate in various external organizations i.e. chamber groups, civic and charitable organizations and advise college leaders on appropriate image brand-building activities to enhance the college's standing in the community
- Develop and implement college brand within the community, serve on community task forces, boards or committees related to college interest, and advise college leaders on appropriate image brand-building activities and techniques. Provide leadership in the development of a crisis management plan and work cohesively with internal and external constituencies
- Serve as spokesperson to ensure consistent messages to members of the electronic and print press ensuring that the messages are positive and in the best interest of the college; Direct, coordinate and support the promotion of campus events to internal and external audiences
- Responsible of annual development and management of area budget
- Manage employees who are responsible for individual disciplines within the following categories: media relations, digital and social media initiatives, special events and the development of video programs that enhance the instructional process
- Provide marketing and public relations support services for all internal constituencies
- Develop a communication and marketing plan that outlines strategies, goals, objectives, tactics and measurable outcomes regarding communication tools used to promote the college's academic and workforce programs to internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with system marketing and communications department to align college strategies along with system goals and objectives
- Coordinate with Enrollment Management team on development and implementation of student recruitment and retention plan
- Create and maintain content and provide oversight of the college's website and social media accounts
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must possess strong writing and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated expertise in advertising, marketing, promotion, supervision of office staff and web marketing
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills required
- Ability to plan and implement effective, collegiate public relations and college advancement strategies
- Demonstrated success as a team leader and project coordinator
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a student-centered, team-oriented environment
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
- Experience must include at least 3 years in a management-level position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree
- Experience in public relations or as a college relations director
Hiring salary range is $96,107 - $110,524
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
