Job Summary

THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY, COLLEGE OF SOCIAL WORK (CoSW) is a renowned leader in higher education. To continue to advance and live into possibilities, we are recruiting a Financial Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following core duties:

Financial Analysis
  • prepare monthly account reconciliations/monitor the accuracy of posted transaction daily
  • work with business office members to resolve issues discovered during reconciliation
  • monitor/facilitate financial activities (e.g., payroll and expense reconciliations, income, endowments, gifts, grants, etc.)
  • assist faculty/staff program directors with budgets & projections
  • serve as day-to-day point of contact for accounts
  • generate financial reports as requested by financial leadership as needed

Business Processes & Supervision
  • comprehensive understanding of all business processes re: financial transactions (travel reimbursement/advances, procurement of goods/services, utilizing UK systems/forms, etc.)
  • process business documents for senior leadership, as needed
  • provide direction/guidance/problem resolution related to processing of business documents to the college—in collaboration with the senior leadership
  • ensure business documents are processed accurately within the guidance of the University and federal/state policies and procedures
  • assist business officer/staff members during annual budget cycle
  • supervise account managers and administrative staff


Process Improvement
  • create/develop/streamline process and workflows to service CoSW faculty, staff, students, and external constituents
  • identify areas of improvement and provide solutions
  • establish administrative and business operations practices and procedures with appropriate internal controls and within guidance of UKY guidelines


Professional Standards, Customer Service, Compliance
  • model and promote excellent customer service for faculty, staff, students, internal/external colleagues
  • attend business office meetings
  • responsible for expanding professional knowledge through training, classes, and seminars of UK policy, procedures, system to better serve CoSW employees and students
  • interpret and enforce UKY policies and regulations and in consistency with best practices (e.g., UKY Business Policies and Procedures, Administrative and Governing Regulations
  • general business office management (calendar/email management/preparing agenda/taking minutes)
