The Fire Sergeant I performs difficult work driving fire apparatus, operating fire apparatus and equipment, fire suppression, and rescue at fires and emergency medical situations. Maintains equipment and facilities; performs specialized tasks or programs for the Fire Department.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED
• Three years’ experience in municipal fire suppression
• Valid NC Class B driver’s license and good driving record
• Emergency Vehicle Driver and Driver Operator certification (FIP 3622 and FIP 3626);
• Experience driving fire apparatus on a part time bases
• NC /IFSAC Firefighter I and II certification
• One year as Firefighter II
• Hazardous Materials Operations certification
• Successful completion of FIP 220 Firefighting Strategies OR FIP 232 Hydraulics & Water Distribution or equivalents.

Work Schedule

24 hours on 48 off rotating. 53 hours per week. Paid bi-weekly.
