Overview: The Mathematics Instructor reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs/ Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and is responsible for providing classroom instruction in the following disciplines: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, introductory calculus and math test preparation. The Instructor coordinates curriculum with Trade Program Directors to ensure focus/application on the specific trades of the students being taught. The position provides classroom instruction and skill development focusing on specific trades of students.

Duties/Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Prepare required course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans for assigned courses.
  • Ensure all course materials and individual student performance grades are current on the college’s Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.
  • Assist in curriculum updating and mapping.
  • Provide instruction and develop student skills for assigned courses.
  • Assist individual students with classroom assignments and skill development to encourage successful attainment of program standards.
  • Regularly and consistently monitor and record student aptitude and performance in the classroom by means of standard instruments of evaluation.
  • Implement the college’s academic policies, such as those relating to grading academic probation and course failure.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the logistics for course functions, including instructional equipment and supplies, field trips and guest speaker presentations to the students.
  • Maintain effective communication and close cooperation with the CAO and other faculty/staff to effectively attain the overall educational objectives of the courses.
  • Maintain close cooperation and coordination with the Trade Program Directors.
  • Actively participate and support the college’s assessment and evaluation efforts, specifically regarding mathematics instruction.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled In-Service Training sessions.
  • Assist the administration through service on various administrative committees.
  • Participate in college disciplinary processes, such as those regarding Disciplinary Appeal, Disciplinary Review, and Scholarship Review.
  • Enforce student compliance with the college’s student conduct code.
  • Attend and perform assigned duties for special events, such as: Freshman Orientation, Convocation, Homecoming, Applicant Interviewing Days, Founder’s Day, Service Week, Spring Cleanup, Commencement, and Alumni Day.
  • Follow all college policies and procedures described in the Employee Handbook.
  • Assist in overseeing compliance with applicable safety standards, accident prevention rules and procedures in the classroom and on all college-related projects.
  • Perform other duties as may occasionally be assigned by the CAO, Provost or President.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in math or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience in mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, introductory calculus and math test preparation)
  • A command of relevant theory and practice, contemporary knowledge, and continuing study in the field of instruction.
