Job Summary

The Student Success Generalist provides guidance, resources, and personalized support to enhance students’ academic success and overall college experience. This role involves one-on-one and group coaching, academic advising, financial aid counseling, and career planning assistance. The Generalist serves as a key resource, helping students navigate college policies, balance academic and personal responsibilities, and develop skills for lifelong learning. develop skills for lifelong learning. This position supports the Delaware Campus and works closely with the location’s academic advising team, assists the testing services area, and facilitates student support services.

Student Coaching & Support

  • Assists students by creating and reviewing information regarding academic planning, course selection, and registration. Provides guidance, coaching, and advising on issues that will impact their placement, enrollment, financial assistance/aid including the potential effect of changes in their course load, withdrawal from their classes, eligibility for a refund of tuition charges, and adherence to the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards policy and appeal process. Supports students throughout the admission and ongoing enrollment processes. Integrates and explains policies and procedures of all areas of enrollment services and other closely related areas. Anticipates students' needs by considering all aspects of the enrollment and retention cycles.

Enrollment & Student Success

  • Provides outreach and follow-up support to existing students and prospective students to encourage enrollment. Tracks all activities, evaluates their effectiveness and recommends outreach changes and improvements. Assists students in understanding their financial obligations and educating them on how Columbus State Community College, federal, state and third-party resources can assist them. Addresses potential student concerns, identifying barriers within the student enrollment process and initiating steps resulting in resolution. Participates in new student orientations, financial literacy programs, and other relevant initiatives

Delaware Student Success Support

  • Serves as the primary point of contact at the Delaware Campus. Greets guests when they arrive and directs them to the appropriate personnel or systems as needed. Answers the telephone and responds to email questions and inquiries. Maintains confidentiality of student records and other confidential or sensitive information.
  • May assist with opening/closing of buildings, classrooms, computer labs, offices, conference rooms, and safety protocols. May assist with testing center duties as needed, including proctoring. Supports Delaware student services by coordinating activities, maintaining campus knowledge through email, newsletters, flyers, and other forms of communications. Provides information about campus services and resources, student life, and opportunities for campus involvement.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attends all required departmental meetings and trainings.
  • Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal as well as internal regulations and procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related field.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
  • *An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: business related software, including Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); standard office procedures and practices; office administration; business English word usage, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation; business and legal formats; FERPA.

Skilled in: verbal and written communication; operation of general office equipment; maintaining good public relations; customer service; application of relevant software programs including word processing and spreadsheets; navigation of web-based systems.

Ability to: work independently demonstrating initiative and time management; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, College partners, and general public; originate correspondence; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records; work effectively with persons of varying backgrounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee frequently sits for periods of time, stands, and walks. Employee converses verbally or manually with others in person as well as by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule on an as needed basis. May be required to travel to different campus locations.
