This position requires someone who will work at an alternate location for field survey collection one half of the year and will be required to have access to transportation to field site locations around the metro Atlanta area.
Job Responsibilities
The GHBS project is responsible for collecting behavioral information on populations at highest risk for HIV/AIDS infection. The Georgia Department of Public Health monitors the epidemic and provides data to inform HIV prevention planning and treatment services within the Atlanta region. The focus of this position is oversight and preparation of formative research data management, data analysis, writing, and dissemination of collected data, as well as assisting the project manager with preparation for activities involving fieldwork and data collection. This position has a mandatory requirement of field work from 4-6 months of each year, where most of the work is conducted at locations other than the DPH office and is conducted at off-site field locations.
- Conducting interviews of key informants and community stakeholders in preparation for survey administration. This position should assist hired consultants involved with the team’s efforts to conduct operations by identifying and contacting community stakeholders and potential interviewees.
- Preparing reports and data workbook updates based on information obtained in informant interviews. Make recommendations based upon evaluation from information gathered. Provide background information on the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the target populations being surveyed.
- This position is primarily responsible for overseeing progress and direction of the formative research activities and overseeing the work of the hired consultants (i.e., ethnographer, community liaison).
- Training interviewing staff in the administration of the standardized questionnaire created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) Department.
- Overseeing the operations of electronic devices, data management activities and ensure that the data collected at the field sites are properly stored and handled (July through November).
- Assist with data management activities that may include but are not limited to data error report correction, weekly data analysis reports and reporting information to interoffice colleagues and CDC project officer.
- Collects and analyzes data obtained from field surveys received from project participants.
- Participating in field research events held by the local NHBS team at local store-front locations throughout the metro Atlanta area at designated times.
- Following directives and protocols set forth by the CDC's NHBS project.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field;
OR
Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Epidemiologist 1 (HCP180) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in public health, sociology, psychology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND four years of experience performing community and epidemiologic work.
- The use of SAS software programming on an intermediate level is required. If the candidate has experience with additional data programming (i.e., R, Stata, Microsoft Excel) it will be considered an asset, but cannot substitute conducting data analysis by SAS programming.
- Experience in field data collection.
- Experience working with populations surveyed by NHBS.
- SAS statistical program analysis to create reports in tables and graphs from multiple sources, including spreadsheets and databases. The candidate must also can store, retrieve, and modify data by use of SAS programming.
