Qualifications:
NJ School Counselor Certification 
Strong interpersonal, written, communication, and confidentiality skills
Ability to provide socio-emotional and academic counseling to groups and individuals
Alibility to evaluate school programs and resources to best support needs of students and families
Desire and ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability 
Experience with testing, scheduling, and CTE pathways preferred 
Ability to organize tasks and manage time effectively and communicate effectively with all stakeholders 
Serve on Student Success Team to identify students who may need targeted supports 


All alternate route candidates (“Certificate of Eligibility) must show completion of 50 hours of pre-service training through a DOE approved CE educator program prior to being interviewed for a position. The certificate of completion must be uploaded into the AppliTrack portal in order for alternate route candidates to be considered. *In accordance with S-414/A-3188 (http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2018/Bills/S0500/414_R2.HTM), school districts, charter schools, nonpublic schools, and contracted service providers (“employers”) are required to review the last twenty years of employment history of prospective employees to ascertain allegations of child abuse or sexual misconduct. It explicitly prohibits such employers from hiring a person serving in a position which involves regular contact with students unless the employer conducts a review of the employment history of the applicant by contacting former and current employers and requesting information regarding child abuse and sexual misconduct allegations.
