Traditional land of the Seminole, Ais, Apalachee, Calusa, Creek, Yemassee, Miccosukee and The Timucua were a Native American people who lived in Northeast and North Central Florida. Hollywood is a very diverse and changing community. It brings together long-time South Florida residents, immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, Haitian communities, families, older adults, workers, and many seasonal visitors and tourists. The area around Hollywood Boulevard is especially interesting because it connects different economic and cultural communities. Some neighborhoods have long-established families and modest income households, while other parts have experienced significant development, with new apartments, businesses, hotels, and higher housing costs. We are in proximity of Miami which is known as “the capital of Latin America” and is one of the most richly multi-ethnic and multi-cultural cities in the U.S. and home to over 500,000 people. The city is also an important financial and banking center for the U.S. and Latin America and the home for numerous multinationals. Dade County, which surrounds Miami and encompasses 2.6 million people, is 65% Hispanic (40% of these are Cuban) with Whites, Blacks and Haitians making up the next largest groups. There are 152 languages spoken in Dade County and 70% of the people speak a language other than English at home.
